Emory University sophomore Tony Lombardo was
named the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) Athlete of
the Week for track and field, after breaking the school record in
the pole vault at the Emory Classic last weekend.
Lombardo won the event at the meet, clearing a height of 4.60
meters to break Mark Kleinkopf’s previous school-record vault
of 4.57 meters, set during the 1985 season. The height was a
tenth of a meter better than his previous personal outdoor best
mark of 4.55 meters, recorded last season.
Lombardo scored 10 points for the Eagles with win in the pole
vault, helping Emory finish second at the meet. This was the
second time this season he has earned the honor, after winning it
on February 14th during the indoor season.
