The Emory University track and field team will open its outdoor season this weekend, hosting the Emory Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

This will be the first intercollegiate competition on Emory's recently renovated track at the Woodruff P.E. Center.  Improvements to the track, made last summer, include a new surface, improved drainage, and an extension to the track in order to run sprints in either direction.

Scheduled to join the Eagles in competition this weekend will be 12 other schools, including Berry College, Birmingham Southern College, Clayton State University, Concordia College Selma, Furman University, Hope College, Lee University, New York University, Oglethorpe University, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Tiffin University and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.  There will also be a contingent of club teams and unattached athletes competing at the meet.

The Emory women are coming off back-to-back conference championships, one during the 2010 outdoor season, and the other just a few weeks ago at the end of the 2011 indoor season.  Emory's Lauren Attiah and Alix Dyer each were NCAA Championship participants during last year's outdoor track and field season.

The Emory men have finished third at both the 2010 outdoor and 2011 indoor UAA Championships.  Returning for the Eagles will be Jason Campbell, Stephen Ellwood and Kevin Lanza, who each earned a UAA Championship as part of the 4x800-meter relay team, and 2010 all-UAA outdoor honorees Brad Pruente, Everett Bryant, Isaac Chambers, Pat Lanter, Anthony Lombardo and Herbert Robson.

Fans can follow the meet with live results, available at http://www.ptgrouponline.com/Live/2011/Emory/Invitational/.  A flat HTML file with full results for download will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com following each day of competition.
