Eagles’ Track & Field Wraps up Competition at Emory Invitational

The Emory University track and field teams wrapped up their opening weekend of competition for the 2011 outdoor season, with a number of strong performances on their home track at the Emory Invitational.

The Emory men had two first-place finishes at the meet, headlined by junior Ben Euwer’s top finish in the javelin throw, where he recorded a distance of 52.35 meters.  Euwer also claimed fourth in the shot put (13.52 meters), and fifth in both the discus throw (39.17 meters) and the hammer throw (43.08 meters). 

The other first-place finish came from freshman Mike Moserowitz in the triple jump, who leaped a distance of 14.02 meters, just ahead of teammates Ian Francis (13.87 meters) and Xavier Fowler (13.82 meters). 

The Emory men also received second-place finishes from Jason Campbell in the 800-meter run (1:55.20), Francis in the long jump (second place, 6.49 meters), Everett Bryant in the 110-meter hurdles (15.90 seconds), Tony Lombardo in the pole vault (4.45 meters) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Isaac Chambers, Nick Cortellessa, Pat Lanter and Campbell (3:24.30).  Other top performers for the Eagles included Chambers in the 400-meter dash (sixth place, 51.15 seconds), Courtlandt Perkins in the 200-meter dash (23.34 seconds), Geraint Davies in the 5,000-meter run (15:58.44), Taylor Warren in the 400-meter hurdles (fourth, 57.62 second), Brad Pruente in the high jump (third, 1.88 meters), and the Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay of Jide Lawal, Lanter, Bryant and Perkins (third, 44.21 seconds).

First-place finishers for the Emory women included Natalie Fenn in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:34.55), Alisha Reynolds in the 400-meter dash (59.93 seconds), Tess Gallegos in the 5,000-meter run (18:09.97), Charlotte Diggs in the pole vault (2.65 meters) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Jasmine McCullough, Alycia Adams, Reynolds and Lauren Attiah (50.04 seconds).

The Eagles also received second-place finishes from Theresa Ford in the javelin throw (32.60 meters) and the long jump (4.91 meters), Sara Gelb in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:57.88), Emily Caesar in the 800-meter run (2:21.15), McCullough in the 100-meter hurdles (15.32 second), and Diggs in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.57), along with the 4x400-meter relay team of Alison Browne, Diggs, Melanie Frank, and Ijeoma Okafor (4:04.13).  Sarah Pitman (30.90 meters in the javelin throw), Ford (1.57 meters in the high jump), McCullough (12.76 seconds in the 100-meter dash), Alycia Adams (26.78 seconds in the 200-meter dash), Frank (4:47.00 in the 1,500-meter run), and Kadijah Ameen (10.13 meters in the triple jump) all added third-place finishes.

Emory will host its second of three outdoor meets this season next week, as the Eagles will welcome in visiting schools for the Emory Combined Events and Emory Classic at the Woodruff P.E. Center from March 24th – 26th.
