Emory Track & Field to Wrap Up Regular Season at Gregory Invitational

Emory Track & Field to Wrap Up Regular Season at Gregory Invitational

The Emory University track and field team will have one more chance to try and register qualifying times and improve on existing qualifying marks before the NCAA Division III Championships, as the Eagles will head to North Central College in Naperville, IL for the Gregory Invitational on Friday, May 20th.

Although the meet will begin on Thursday, the Eagles are currently not scheduled to have any competitors in the first day’s events.  Action on Friday is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start for field events, and a 4:00 PM start for running events.

Athletes to watch on the men’s side include seniors Jason Campbell and Everett Bryant.  At last week’s Clemson Final Qualifier, Campbell recorded a career-best time of 1:53.07 in the 800-meter run, just 37 hundredths of a second off the provisional qualifying mark.  Meanwhile, Bryant was just four hundredths of a second off the provisional mark in the 110-meter hurdles at last week’s meet, and should he improve on his season-best time of 14.81 seconds, he would put himself in a strong position to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Both Ian Francis and Xavier Fowler will be looking to improve on their NCAA provisional qualifying times at the Gregory Invitational.  Francis currently ranks 16th among Division III athletes with a jump of 14.52 meters, while Fowler is 20th with a distance of 14.45 meters.

Sophomore Isaac Chambers will also compete for the Emory men, both individually in the 400-meter dash, and as part of the Eagles’ 4x400-meter relay.

For the Emory women, a few Eagles who have provisionally qualified will be looking to improve on those marks to raise their chances of competing in the NCAA Championships. Junior Alix Dyer’s will try to lower her season-best time of 12.20 seconds in the 100-meter dash, the 17th-best mark in the Nation.  Junior Lauren Attiah reached a season-best distance of 11.58 meters in the triple jump last weekend, ranking her 20th in the nation this season, and will look to raise her ranking on Friday.  Senior Natalie Fenn’s provisional qualifying time of 11:08.57 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase is good for the 34th-best mark in D-III this year, while freshman Morgan Monroe ranks 36th in the 100-meter hurdles with a provisional time of 14.88 seconds, both of which will likely need to improve on Friday to qualify for NCAAs.

Finally, the Eagles’ 4x100-meter relay team has a season-best time of 47.91 seconds, the 18th-best mark in Division III this year, while the 4x400-meter relay’s provisional time of 3:55.81 ranks 34th, as both will look to improve at the meet.

Also competing at the meet will be Jasmine McCullough, who will be looking to qualify in the 100-meter dash.  McCullough has already recorded an automatic qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles, but is not scheduled to run in the event on Friday. The Eagles will also feature sophomore Kaele Leonard and senior Alisha Reynolds in the 400-meter dash, juniors Charlotte Diggs and Laura Lambie-Hanson in the 400-meter hurdles, and junior Sara Gelb in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The meet will be held on the track at the Benedtti-Wehrli Stadium.  Results will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com following the completion of competition.
