The Emory University track and field team had a number of strong
performances at three different meets this weekend – the Ole
Miss Invitational, the Duke Invitational and the Furman
Invitational - including an NCAA provisional qualifying mark from
Ian Francis in the triple jump.
Francis’ qualifying mark came at the Ole Miss Invitational in
Oxford, MS, where the junior recorded a distance of 14.33 meters,
.13 meters over the provisional mark.
Also at the Ole Miss Invitational, Everett Bryant
was Emory’s top finisher in three events, placing
15th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.50 seconds),
31st in the 100-meter dash (11.47 seconds), and
56th in the 200-meter dash (23.49 seconds).
Mike Moserowitz added a 10th-place
finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.75 meters.
For the women at the meet, Jasmine McCullough was
Emory’s top finisher in both the 100-meter dash
(26th place, 12.57 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles
(17th place, 15.12 seconds). Lauren
Attiah added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump
(11.26 meters) and a 14th-place finish in the long jump
(5.17 meters). Other top marks for the women included
Alycia Adams’ 16th-place finish
in the 200-meter dash (25.50 seconds), Alicia
Reynolds’ 16th-place finish in the
400-meter dash (59.74 seconds), and Laura
Lambie-Hanson’s 12th-place finish in the
100-meter hurdles (1:06.81).
At the Duke Invitational, Emory senior Natalie
Fenn recorded a time of 11:14.43 in the women’s
3,000-meter steeplechase, just over four seconds shy of the
provisional qualification mark. In the men’s
developmental 800-meter run, freshman Cameron
Edwards placed third with a mark of 1:56.99. Other
top finishers at the meet included Melanie Frank
in the 1,500-meter run (4:47.33), Jennifer
Feinberg in the 10,000-meter run (40:53.52), Tess
Gallegos in the 5,000-meter run (18:14.41), Emily
Caesar in the 800-meter run (2:20.28) , Kevin
Lanza in the 1,500-meter run (4:04.39) and Tim
Halinski in the 5,000-meter run (15:32.77).
The majority of the squad attended Saturday’s Furman
Invitational in Greenville, SC. Charlotte
Diggs turned in one of the stronger performances of the
weekend, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.74, just
half a second over the provisional qualifying mark.
Theresa Ford added first-place finishes in four
different events, winning the high jump (1.53 meters), the long
jump (5.27 meters), the discus throw (38.00 meters) and the javelin
throw (31.04 meters).
For the men at the Furman Invitational, Jason
Campbell placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of
1:56.05, while Pat Lanter was the runner-up in
both the 100-meter dash with a mark of 11.51 seconds, and the long
jump with a distance of 6.32 meters. Brad
Pruente added second-place finishes in the high jump (1.83
meters) and javelin throw (42.62 meters), while Ben
Euwer won the shot put (13.15 meters), Xavier
Fowler claimed the top spot in the triple jump (13.61
meters), and Somon Nader finished second in the
pole vault (3.85 meters).
The Eagles will split their squad once again next weekend,
traveling to Auburn, AL for the War Eagle Invitational and to
Cullowee, NC for the West Carolina Invitational, in the
team’s final preparation for the University Athletic
Association (UAA) Championships in Atlanta on April 22nd
and 23rd.
