Eagles Look Strong at Three Weekend Track & Field Meets

The Emory University track and field team had a number of strong performances at three different meets this weekend – the Ole Miss Invitational, the Duke Invitational and the Furman Invitational - including an NCAA provisional qualifying mark from Ian Francis in the triple jump.

Francis’ qualifying mark came at the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, MS, where the junior recorded a distance of 14.33 meters, .13 meters over the provisional mark.

Also at the Ole Miss Invitational, Everett Bryant was Emory’s top finisher in three events, placing 15th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.50 seconds), 31st in the 100-meter dash (11.47 seconds), and 56th in the 200-meter dash (23.49 seconds).  Mike Moserowitz added a 10th-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.75 meters.

For the women at the meet, Jasmine McCullough was Emory’s top finisher in both the 100-meter dash (26th place, 12.57 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles (17th place, 15.12 seconds).  Lauren Attiah added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (11.26 meters) and a 14th-place finish in the long jump (5.17 meters).  Other top marks for the women included Alycia Adams’ 16th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.50 seconds), Alicia Reynolds’ 16th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (59.74 seconds), and Laura Lambie-Hanson’s 12th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (1:06.81).

At the Duke Invitational, Emory senior Natalie Fenn recorded a time of 11:14.43 in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, just over four seconds shy of the provisional qualification mark.  In the men’s developmental 800-meter run, freshman Cameron Edwards placed third with a mark of 1:56.99.  Other top finishers at the meet included Melanie Frank in the 1,500-meter run (4:47.33), Jennifer Feinberg in the 10,000-meter run (40:53.52), Tess Gallegos in the 5,000-meter run (18:14.41), Emily Caesar in the 800-meter run (2:20.28) , Kevin Lanza in the 1,500-meter run (4:04.39) and Tim Halinski in the 5,000-meter run (15:32.77).

The majority of the squad attended Saturday’s Furman Invitational in Greenville, SC.  Charlotte Diggs turned in one of the stronger performances of the weekend, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.74, just half a second over the provisional qualifying mark.  Theresa Ford added first-place finishes in four different events, winning the high jump (1.53 meters), the long jump (5.27 meters), the discus throw (38.00 meters) and the javelin throw (31.04 meters).

For the men at the Furman Invitational, Jason Campbell placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.05, while Pat Lanter was the runner-up in both the 100-meter dash with a mark of 11.51 seconds, and the long jump with a distance of 6.32 meters.    Brad Pruente added second-place finishes in the high jump (1.83 meters) and javelin throw (42.62 meters), while Ben Euwer won the shot put (13.15 meters), Xavier Fowler claimed the top spot in the triple jump (13.61 meters), and Somon Nader finished second in the pole vault (3.85 meters).

The Eagles will split their squad once again next weekend, traveling to Auburn, AL for the War Eagle Invitational and to Cullowee, NC for the West Carolina Invitational, in the team’s final preparation for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships in Atlanta on April 22nd and 23rd.
