Emory University junior Jasmine McCullough
recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time, and the women’s
4x100-meter relay team followed with a provisional qualifying
performance as well, headlining the Eagles’ performance at
the Western Carolina Invitational on Friday.
McCullough’s time of 14.70 in the 100-meter hurdles was good
for a third-place finish, and .29 seconds better than the NCAA
provisional qualifying time. The mark was a personal record
for the junior, and the seventh-fastest time in the program’s
history. McCullough’s time ranks as the second-fastest
by a University Athletic Association (UAA) competitor this season,
and is tied for seventh among all NCAA Division III runners this
season, heading into the weekend.
Meanwhile, Emory’s 4x100-meter relay team of McCullough,
Alycia Adams, Lauren Attiah, and
Alix Dyer finished second in the event with a time
of 47.91 seconds, the seventh-best time in school history and .74
seconds better than the NCAA’s provisional qualifying
mark. The time ranks as the fourth-fastest by an NCAA
Division III program this season, and the best among UAA
schools.
Other top performances from the Emory women included a first-place
finish from the Eagles’ 4x400-meter relay team of
Alisha Reynolds, Alicia Adams, Laura
Lambie-Hanson, and Dyer (4:00.36), second-place finishes
from Attiah in the high jump (1.50 meters) and Theresa
Ford in the discus throw (36.24), and third-place finishes
from Dyer in the 100-meter dash (12.51 seconds) and Lambie-Hanson
in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.73).
The Emory men received two first-place finishes during the
meet. The first came from Jason Campbell in
the 800-meter run, as the senior won the event with a time of
1:55.53. Emory’s other first-place finish came from the
team’s 4x400-meter relay team of Isaac
Chambers, Mike Moserowitz, Ian
Francis, and Campbell, which recorded a time of
3:24.93.
Junior Ben Euwer finished second in the hammer
throw with a distance of 42.97 meters, while Scott
Greathouse claimed third in the high jump (1.85 meters)
and Pence Wiant claimed third in the javelin throw
(43.44 meters). Everett Bryant (15.13
seconds in the 100-meter hurdles) and Taylor
Warren (59.61 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles) each
recorded fourth-place finishes.
Emory also sent Charlotte Diggs to the War Eagle
Invitational, where the junior ran a time of 1:01.25 in the
400-meter dash and a mark of 16.44 seconds in the 100-meter
hurdles.
With this weekend’s meets behind them, the Eagles will now
turn their attention towards hosting next weekend’s
conference championships. The 2011 University Athletic
Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held at
the Woodruff P.E. Center, starting on Friday, April
22nd, and continuing throughout the day on Saturday,
April 23rd.
