Emory Women win UAA Track & Field Championships; Men Finish Fourth

For the third-straight season, the Emory University women's track and field team claimed the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, winning the outdoor title on Saturday in Atlanta, GA.  The Emory men claimed a fourth-place finish at the meet.

Heading into Saturday's action in third place with 45 points behind Washington University (90 pts.) and Chicago (51 pts.), Emory exploded with a number of first-place showings combined with strong overall performances en route to a final total of 202.5 points.  Wash U. took home the runner-up spot for the second straight year with 183.5 points while Case Western claimed third at 133 points.

The Emory women kick off the second day of competition with a dominating performance in the 4x100-meter relay, as Jasmine McCullough, Alycia Adams, Lauren Attiah, and Alix Dyer won the conference championship in the event with a provisional qualifying time of 47.91 seconds.

The Eagles also won the 4x400-meter relay to bookend the day with conference titles, as Alicia Reynolds, Adams, Kaele Leonard and Dyer ran a provisional time of 3:55.91.

The Eagles also received a pair of individual championships from Dyer, who won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.40 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.49 seconds.  Leonard added the final conference title of the day for Emory, winning the 400-meter dash in a time of 58.97.

McCullough contributed with a pair of second-place finishes to earn all-UAA honors, finishing as the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles (14.79 seconds) and the 100-meter dash (12.49 seconds).  Sophomore Theresa Ford earned all-UAA honors in the discus throw with a toss of 38.42 meters to finish second, and in the javelin throw with a third-place finish (35.43 meters).  Attiah also claimed all-UAA honors with a second-place finish in the triple jump (11.29 meters) and a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.70 seconds).

Morgan Monroe (15.03 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles), Reynolds (59.58 seconds in the 400-meter dash), Emily Caesar (2:17.14 in the 800-meter run), and Charlotte Diggs (1:04.25 in the 400-meter hurdles) all had third-place finishes to round out Emory's list of all-UAA honorees.

Meanwhile, the men finished the meet with 106 points, as Wash U. claimed the title with 216 points, and Chicago took second with 162.

Junior Ian Francis claimed the lone men's championship of the meet, winning the triple jump with a provisional qualifying distance of 14.52 meters, while Xavier Fowler finished third with a leap of 13.94 meters. 

The Emory men scored well in the high jump during day 2, with Scott Greathouse earning all-UAA honors in the event by clearing a height of 1.83 meters for a second-place finish.  Jason Campbell added a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.22, while Edward Robson took third in the javelin throw with a toss of 51.06 meters.

Rounding out the day, Emory's Isaac Chambers, Francis, Mike Moserowitz and Campbell finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.98.

With the UAA Championships now behind them, the Eagles will now turn their attention towards qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships in May.  Emory will be back in action on May 7th at the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson University.
