Emory University senior Ian Francis recorded the longest triple jump by a University Athletic Association (UAA) athlete this season while competing at the Vulcan Invitational last weekend. Francis’ triple jump of 14.11 meters, good for a ninth-place finish at the meet, was the 18th-best by a Division III athlete this season and the sixth-best mark in school history. The senior also recorded the team’s season-best time in the 200-meter dash, finishing 41st with a mark of 23.09 seconds, ninth in the UAA this season. He added an 11th-place finish in the long jump, reaching a distance of 6.66 meters for his second-best jump of the season, and a time of 7.27 seconds with a 37th-place finish in the 60-meter dash, 10th among all UAA competitors in 2012. Francis rounded out the meet by running the second leg of the Eagles’ 4x400-meter relay team, which finished eighth with a season-best time of 3:26.88.
