Based on his performance at the Emory Invitational last weekend, Emory University senior Ian Francis was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.

Francis recorded a pair of first-place finishes during the squad?s first meet of the outdoor season.  Francis won the long jump with a leap of 7.03 meters, the fifth-best mark by a Division III athlete this season.  He also won the triple jump with a distance of 14.09 meters, sixth-best in the nation thus far.  Francis turned in a number of strong performances in the running events as well, finishing sixth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.49 seconds, eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.78 seconds, and ninth as part of Emory?s 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.90 seconds.

Francis accounted for 21 of Emory?s 93.5 points during the meet, helping the squad to a fourth-place finish.  This was the fourth time during his career that he has earned the honor.

Francis and the Eagles will return to action this weekend, hosting the Emory Classic, the team?s second and final home meet of the 2012 season.
