Emory University seniors Lauren Attiah and Ian Francis were named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Athletes of the Week for Track and Field, following their performances at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic last weekend.

Attiah was a part of two school-record breaking efforts at the meet.  She became the first woman in school history to surpass the 12-meter mark in the triple jump, breaking her own school record with a leap of 12.03 meters.  It was the fourth-best jump by a Division III athlete this season, and good for a seventh-place finish at the meet.  She ran the second leg of the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team, which set a school-record with a time of 3:50.18, the second-best mark among D-III squads in 2012, and 11^th-best at the meet.  Attiah also finished 12^th in the long jump with a distance of 5.51 meters (18^th in Division III) and 15^th as the third leg of the 4x100-meter relay team with a time of 48.13 seconds (seventh in Division III).

Francis won the triple jump at the Auburn Tiger Classic, recording a distance of 14.78 meters to win the event, the third-best mark in school history and fourth-best among all Division III competitors this season.  He added an 18^th-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.68 meters.  Francis rounded out the meet by running the second leg of Emory's 4x400-meter relay team, which finished 20^th with a time of 3:23.48.

This was the fourth time this season and fifth time during his career that Francis has been named the UAA Athlete of the Week.  It was the first honor of the season for Attiah, and the eighth of her Emory career.

The Emory track and field team will return to action this weekend at the West Carolina Invitational and the J.C. Smith Invitational.
