Eagles Set 12 Season-Best Marks at Johnson C. Smith Invitational

The Emory University men's and women's track and field teams combined to record the squad's season-best marks in 12 different events while competing at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational, including top-10 Division III times in three events.

The Emory women notched five different season-best marks during the meet, while the men contributed with seven of their own.

Leading the way for the women was senior Charlotte Diggs, whose time of 1:02.54 in the 400-meter hurdles was not only the second-fastest in Emory history, but also the third-best mark in the event by a Division III runner this season.  She placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in the meet.

Freshman Debora Adjibaba recorded a time of 56.90 seconds in the 400-meter dash, finishing 11th at the meet.  It ranked as the second-fastest performance in school history, and ninth among all Division III athletes during the campaign.  Adjibaba also ran the leadoff leg of the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team, along with seniors Lauren Attiah, Alix Dyer and Jasmine McCullough, as the quartet claimed a fourth-place finish with a time of 47.84 seconds, eighth among all Division III relay teams this year.

Freshman Elaina Kim won the pole vault with a height of 3.19 meters, the best clearance by an Eagle this season.  Attiah and Dyer each recorded times of 25.72 seconds in the 200-meter dash, finishing ninth and tenth respectively, with the best marks in the event for Emory during the campaign.

The Emory men's sprinters and hurdles turned in their best times of the season at the meet, led by senior Ian Francis who finished 16th in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 11.28 seconds and 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.87 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, Gui Silva inched closer to breaking the 50-second mark with a time of 50.03 seconds, a season-best for the freshman.  Emory also had its season-best performances in the two hurdle events, with freshman Ankush Mohile finishing 10th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.32 seconds, and sophomore Nick Cortellessa finishing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.38.

Senior Geraint Davies had Emory's best time of the season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing fifth with a time of 9:55.24.  Sophomore Somon Nader capped off the day by clearing a campaign-best height of 3.95 meters in the pole vault.

The Eagles will compete next weekend in their final meet before the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, traveling to the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University on Friday and Saturday.
