Eagles Gear Up for UAAs with Meets at Auburn & Sewanee

In their final stages of preparation for next weekend's University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship in Pittsburgh, PA, the Emory University track and field team split a limited squad between the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University, and the Mountain Laurel Invitational at the University of the South (Sewanee) this weekend.

At the War Eagle Invitational, Stephen Ellwood won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:55.99, the third-fastest mark in the UAA this season, and the ninth-best time in the event in school history.  Other top performers for the Emory men at the meet include William Matheson, who finished 20th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.25, and Ishan Dey, who finished 26th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:24.80.

For the Emory women at the meet, Morgan Monroe recorded the second-fastest UAA time this season and best mark by an Eagle in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 28th with a mark of 15.02 seconds.  Monroe was also the Eagles' top finisher in the 100-meter dash at the meet with a time of 12.80 seconds.

Other top finishers for the Emory women at the War Eagle Invitational including Hadiza Sa-Aadu in the 200-meter dash (45th place, 26.15 seconds), Alix Dyer in the 400-meter dash (27th place, 57.90 seconds) and Laura Lambie-Hanson in the 400-meter hurdles (16th place, 1:04.87).

The Mountain Laurel Invitational in Sewanee, Tennessee featured team scoring, as the Emory women scored 82 points and the men 56, each recording fourth-place finishes.

For the women, Theresa Ford won the discus throw with a mark of 37.24 meters, and also claimed second in the javelin throw with a mark of 31.37 meters.  Leeanne Fagan added a season-best mark by an Eagle in the shot put, finishing fourth with a toss of 9.74 meters, and Elise Viox won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:59.66.

Shaunesse Jacobs and Khadijah Ameen were Emory's top finisher in two events apiece, as Jacobs claimed ninth in the 200-meter dash (27.87 seconds) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.34), and Ameen finished third in the long jump (4.52 meters) and second in the triple jump (9.90 meters).  Other top finishers for Emory included Christian Conway in the 100-meter dash (eighth place, 14.00 seconds), Sabrina Jeppsson in the 800-meter run (2:22.78), and Katie Wilson in the high jump (third-place, 1.52 meters).

For the men, David Corrigan paced the Eagles in three throwing events, finishing second in each of the shot put (12.17 meters), discus throw (37.41 meters) and hammer throw (34.12 meters).  Scott Greathouse won the high jump by clearing a height of 1.83 meters, while Courtlandt Perkins finished fourth in both the 200-meter dash (23.18 seconds) and 400-meter dash (52.12 seconds).

The 2012 UAA Outdoor Championships, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University, will get started on Saturday, April 28th, and continue through Sunday, April 29th.
