Emory University junior Kaele Leonard turned in a career day on Saturday at the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson University, setting a school record in the 400-meter dash during the meet.
Leonard broke the school-record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.54 seconds in the event, finishing ninth overall. It was the 14th-best mark by a Division III athlete this season, and topped Alix Dyer's previous school record of 56.75, set in 2010.
Senior Lauren Attiah added a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.71 meters, the second-longest mark in school history and the 12th-best mark in Division III. She also finished sixth in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.65 meters, tied for the best mark by an Eagle this season, and 12th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.92 seconds.
In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Morgan Monroe recorded the eighth-best mark in school history, finishing 13th in a time of 14.63 seconds. Other top performers for the Emory women during the meet included Jasmine McCullough in the 100-meter dash (12.69 seconds, 14th place), Charlotte Diggs in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.70, 11th place), and the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team of McCullough, Dyer, Attiah and Debora Adjibaba (47.65 seconds, fourth place).
For the men, senior Ian Francis finished 12th in the long jump, matching his season-best leap of 7.10 meters, tied for the seventh-best jump in school history. Xavier Fowler finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.13 meters, while Isaac Chambers claimed 15th in the 400-meter dash (50.84 seconds) and Eric Lawson took 25th-place in the 800-meter run (2:03.92).
The Eagles will return to action later in the week with a pair of meets, traveling to Naperville, IL for the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Thursday, before returning to Clemson for the Tiger Qualifier on Friday and Saturday.
