School Records Fall at Three Meets for the Emory Track & Field Team

Members of the Emory University Track and Field team set four new school records while in action at meets in Naperville, Illinois, Clemson, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia during the weekend.

At the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday, it was senior Alix Dyer who stole the show, setting a school record in the 400-meter dash, and as the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay, along with freshman Debora Adjibaba, senior Lauren Attiah, and junior Kaele Leonard.

In the individual event, Dyer ran a time of 56.34 seconds to finish 16th at the meet, besting the previous school time of 56.54 seconds, set just a week earlier by Leonard.  Dyer's time ranks as the 11th-best mark in Division III this season.  Leonard finished close behind, placing 21st with a time of 57.00 seconds.

The Eagles' relay team finished eighth at the meet with a time of 3:48.96, besting their own school record time of 3:50.18 set earlier this season.  It was the sixth-fastest time by a Division III relay in the event this season.

Also at Georgia Tech, Attiah recorded the season-best mark by an Eagle in the high jump, finishing ninth by clearing a height of 1.66 meters, tying her for the third-best mark in school history and the 23rd-best Division III mark this year.  In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Charlotte Diggs recorded the second-fastest time in the program's history, finishing 24th in a time of 1:02.47, 15th-fastest in Division III this year.  Emory's 4x100-meter relay team of senior Jasmine McCullough, Dyer, Attiah and Adjibaba finished 13th with a mark of 47.43, the second-fastest mark for the squad this season.

Other top marks at the meet came from senior Ian Francis in the long jump (7.04 meters, 12th place) and triple jump (14.27 meters, 11th place), sophomore Morgan Monroe in the 100-meter hurdles (15.42 seconds, 35th place), Adjibaba in the 100-meter dash (12.36 seconds, 42nd place), and Attiah in the triple jump (11.63 meters, 19th place).

Emory's distance runners highlighted their performances at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, IL on Thursday and Friday.  Senior Tess Gallegos set an Emory record in the 5,000-meter run, with a time of 17:15.26, breaking her own program best and finishing seventh overall in the event.  It was also the 26th-fastest time in Division III this season.

Adding to the record-setting day was junior Stephen Ellwood turned in a school-record mark in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:52.39, good for an eighth-place finish and the 19th-fastest time in Division III this year.

Emory athletes also recorded season-best marks in both the men's and women's 800-meter run.  For the women, it was junior Emily Caesar, who finished 16th with a time of 2:15.90, the 10th-best mark in school history.  On the men's side, freshman Patrick Crews finished 42nd with a mark of 1:55.63, while sophomore William Matheson followed shortly behind, claiming 58th with a mark of 1:56.97.
