Emory University seniors Geraint Davies, Ben Euwer, Charlotte Diggs, and Tess Gallegos, and juniors Stephen Ellwood and Charlotte Diggs were each named to the Capital One Track and Field/ Cross Country Academic All-District Team for their academic and athletic performances during the 2011-12 year.

This was the second College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honor for Gallegos, and the first for the other five Emory honorees.

Davies, the Most Valuable Runner for the Emory Cross Country team in 2011, was an All-Region honoree and a participant in the NCAA Championships during the season.  Davies finished in the team's top five performers in all six cross country meets he participated in, leading the squad on four occasions and recording a ninth-place finish at the regional championships.  He also scored for the Eagles at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Davies has a 3.61 cumulative grade point average as a chemistry and music major at Emory.

Elwood recorded the best track season of his career, setting a school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:52.39 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational.  He earned all-UAA honors with a second-place finishes in the outdoor 1,500-meter run, and as part of the Eagles' indoor 4x800-meter relay team.  During the cross country season, he earned the Coach's Award after finishing 10^th at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships.  A biology major, Ellwood has compiled a 3.87 grade point average during his three years at Emory.

Euwer ended his Emory career as the school record holder in the indoor shot put, with a throw of 14.77 meters.  In addition, he earned all-UAA honors during the 2012 indoor season with a second-place finish at the conference championships.  Despite suffering a season-ending injury halfway through the outdoor season, he was still able to record throws of 14.11 meters in the shot put, and 50.57 meters in the javelin.  Euwer, an economics and chemistry major, has a 3.83 grade point average during his time at the school.

Diggs recently competed at her first NCAA Championship meet, finishing 14^th in the 400-meter hurdles.  Her season-best time of 1:02.47 in the event was the second-best time in the event in the program's history.  She also earned all-UAA honors in the 400-meter hurdles with a third-place finish at the outdoor conference championships.  Diggs has recorded a 3.73 grade point average as an English major at Emory.

Ford earned all-America honors at the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, finishing fourth overall in the high jump.  She is the school-record holder in the indoor high jump, clearing a height of 1.68 meters during the season.  Also during the indoor season, she claimed the UAA Championship in both the long jump and the high jump.  Ford was an all-UAA honoree during the outdoor season as well, finishing second in the long jump and discus throw, and third in the high jump at the conference championship meet.  She has a cumulative grade point average of 3.67 as a business major.

Gallegos was Emory's Most Valuable Runner for Cross Country this season, finishing in second-place out of 197 runners at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships to earn all-region honors.  She was Emory's top runner at both the UAA Championships and the NCAA Championships in 2012.  During the outdoor season, she set a school-record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:15.66 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, and scored in the event at the UAA Outdoor Championships (fourth-place).  Gallegos was also an all-UAA finisher in the indoor 5,000-meter run (third-place) and scored for the Eagles in the indoor 3,000-meter run (fifth-place).  Gallegos has a 3.82 grade point average as an Anthropology major.

Athletes selected to the Academic All-District teams are nominated by their institution's Sports Information Director, and then voted on by the Sports Information Directors in the district.  Emory is a part of District 5, which includes NCAA Division III athletes from colleges in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The Academic All‐District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
