Emory University runners recorded five new personal-best times and season-best times for the squad in three events, while in action in distance and mid-distance events at the Hilton Garden Innvitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Friday and Saturday.
Emory's lone runner on Friday night, junior Craig Melissas, recorded a personal-best time in the 5,000-meter run for the second time in five days, finishing 23rd in the event with a time of 16:11.87.
For the men on Saturday, junior Edward Mulder recorded an Emory season-best in the mile run, finishing ninth with a time of 4:21.96, the fourth-fastest by a University Athletic Association (UAA) competitor this season. Freshman Lukas Mees finished 26th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:58.83, the fastest mark by an Eagle in 2013. Sophomore Cameron Wheeler finished 52nd with a personal-best time of 9:25.18 in the 3,000-meter run, while sophomore Hirsh Gaikwad finished 61st with a time of 9:41.28.
In the men's 800-meter run, junior Eric Weiner led all Eagles with a 33rd-place finish (2:02.78), while junior William Matheson finished 34th (2:03.12), sophomore Alexander Kim 35th (2:03.27) and freshman Andrew Hemingway 43rd (2:04.34).
For the women, sophomore Stephanie Crane recorded the second-fastest time by a UAA competitor this season in the mile run, finishing seventh with a time of 5:07.89. It was also the fourth-best time in Emory history, and the 17th-best mark by a Division III runner this season. Sophomore Marissa Gogniat added a career-best mile time of 5:17.71, good for a 26th-place finish.
Junior Emily Caesar claimed 19th-place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.83, while sophomore Hannah Moriarty finished 28th in the 3,000-meter run with a career-best time of 10:56.35 in the event.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, competing at Clemson University on Friday, February 8th and Saturday, February 9th.
