Emory University will kick off its 2013 Outdoor Track and Field season this weekend by hosting the annual Emory Invitational on Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd, which will feature the largest field of athletes in the event's history.

As of Thursday morning, 1,076 athletes were slated to compete at the meet.  In addition to Emory, 23 other schools from eight different states are slated to attend the meet.  Included in that group are men's and women's squads from Alma, Anderson (S.C.), Augusta State, Berry, Birmingham-Southern, Buffalo State, Chattahoochee Tech, Clark Atlanta, Clayton State, Columbus State, Covenant, Emmanuel, Georgia College and State University, Hope, Marian (Ind.), Mercer, Miles, Oglethorpe, SCAD, Shorter, Trine and Tuskegee, in addition to the women's squad from Brenau, and a contingent of unattached athletes.  The meet will be a scored meet for all of the collegiate teams.

The Emory Invitational will begin on Friday afternoon, starting with the men's hammer throw, men's high jump, women's javelin and women's long jump at 3:00 PM.  Track events will start at 4:00 PM on Friday with the men's 400-meter hurdles, and wrap-up with the women's 10,000-meter run, which will begin at 6:25 PM.

On Saturday, action will begin on the track with the c-section of the men's 5,000-meter run at 9:00 AM, while field events will start at 9:30 AM with the women's shot put.  The final event of the meet, the women's 4x400-meter relay, is scheduled to begin at 4:50 PM.

All running events will be held on the track at the Woodruff Physical Education Center, with field events being split between the Woodruff P.E. Center and nearby McDonough Field.  The Emory University track is a 400m Eurotan Track with eight lanes.  The shot-put, hammer, and discus circles are all concrete.  The shot-put circle is located at the west end of the track.  The hammer and discus circles are located on McDonough Field, north of the Woodruff P.E. Center.  Javelin will be contested on the track's infield and on McDonough Field on grass runways.

Admission is free for fans wishing to attend the meet.  For those unable to attend, there will be live statistics available at http://www.ptgrouponline.com/Live/2013/Emory/Invitational/ and a webcast starting at 10:30 AM on Saturday at http://go.emory.edu/Webcasts/TrackWebcast.html.  RealPlayer is required to view the webcast, and can be downloaded for free at real.com.
