Eagles Complete Final Meets before 2013 UAA Championships

The Emory University Track and Field team sent competitors to a pair of meets on Saturday, the squad's final competitions before the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships next weekend.

Emory's only competitor at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational, junior Morgan Monroe, made the most of the trip with a pair of season-best times.  She finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54 seconds, the 10th-fastest mark in Division III this season and the best by a UAA competitor this season.  In addition, it ranked as the eighth-fastest 100-meter hurdle time in school history.  Monroe also finished 25th in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 12.97 seconds, her personal-best time this year and seventh-best among UAA athletes.

Meanwhile, at the Mountain Laurel Invitational, hosted by the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, Eagles claimed first-place finishes in four different events.  For the men, freshman Taylor Jarl won the shot put with a season-best throw of 12.52 meters, in addition to fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (31.74 meters).  Freshman Jacob Seigel added a win in the discus throw with a distance of 41.75 meters.  In addition, sophomore Louis Mennel was the Eagles' top finisher in the 200-meter dash (eighth-place, 24.09 seconds) and javelin throw (third-place, 37.43 meters).

For the women, sophomore Elaina Kim won the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 3.05 meters.  Sophomore Anja Matthes tied for first in the high jump, registering a height of 1.55 meters, and finished second in the long jump with a distance of 4.75 meters.  Sophomore Ulrica Tull recorded an Emory season-best in the hammer throw, finishing second with a distance of 31.36 meters, and claimed third in the shot put with a toss of 8.88 meters.  Other top finishers for the Eagles included junior Emily Caesar in the 800-meter run (second place, 2:25.57) and sophomore Madison Hoeninghausen in the javelin throw (second-place, 33.35 meters).

The UAA Championships, hosted by New York University at Icahn Stadium in New York, NY, will take place on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th.
