Lanter Claims All-Conference Honor during Day 1 of UAAs

Emory University senior Pat Lanter led the Eagles during the first day of competition at the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, earning an all-conference honor with a second-place finish in the long jump.

Lanter's jump of 6.63 meters was the longest this season by an Eagle.  The second-place finish gave him his third-career all-UAA honor, and his first ever in the long jump.

Other scoring performances from Emory on the first day came from junior Mike Moserowitz in the long jump (fifth place, 6.40 meters), freshmen Taylor Jarl (seventh place, 12.61 meters) and Jacob Seigel (eighth place, 12.56 meters) in the shot put, and the Eagles' 4x800-meter relay team (sixth place, 7:55.45).

Emory finished the first day with 18 points, and currently sit in sixth place in the team standings.  Carnegie Mellon is leading all squads with 66 points, and is followed by Wash U. (64), Case Western Reserve (57), Chicago (38) and NYU (21).  Brandeis trails Emory with seven points during the first day.

However, the Eagles will look to make a move during the second day on Sunday, with seven athletes qualifying for finals.  Emory will be well-represented in both hurdle events, after sophomore Ankush Mohile finished third in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries (15.85 seconds) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdle  preliminaries (58.58 seconds), while freshman Adam Rabushka finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (56.95 seconds) and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.95 seconds).  Junior Nick Cortellessa also qualified for the 400-meter hurdle finals, finishing eighth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:00.04.

Emory will also have two competitors in the finals of the 400-meter dash, after freshman Maxwell Hoberman finished third in the preliminaries (50.24 seconds) and was followed closely by fifth-place finishing senior teammate Isaac Chambers (50.25 seconds).

Action at the final day of the UAA Championships  at Icahn Stadium in New York, NY will resume at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning.
