Chambers, Ellwood & Ford Named Academic All-Americans

A trio of recent Emory graduates, Isaac Chambers, Stephen Ellwood and Theresa Ford have been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Team.  Chambers was a first-team selection on the Men's Academic All-America Team while Ellwood was selected to the third team.  Ford was a second-team honoree on the Women's Academic All-America Team.

Chambers (Champaign, IL), a business administration major, was selected as Emory's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2013, recording a perfect 4.00 GPA during his collegiate career.  He finished his career with six all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors, including a third-place finish as a part of Emory's 4x400-meter relay at the 2013 UAA Indoor Championships.  Chambers is the program's record-holder in the indoor 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.51, and has career-best outdoor times of 22.95 seconds in the 200-meter dash, and 49.67 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

Ellwood (Princeton Junction, NJ), who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.90 as a biology major, was the runner-up in the 1,500-meters at the 2013 UAA Outdoor Championships.  He finished his Emory career with six all-UAA finishes in track and field, posting career-best outdoor times of 3:52.39 in the 1,500-meter run, 1:56.43 in the 800-meter run and 15:18.31 in the 5,000-meter run.  In addition, he has compiled career-best indoor times of 8:55.71 in the 3,000-meter run and 4:18.54 in the mile run, in addition to being named the Cross Country team's Most Valuable Performer in 2010, with a career-best 8K time of 25:47.

Ford (Minneapolis, MN) recently wrapped up one of the best careers in Emory history with a second-place finish in the heptathlon at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships, setting school records with 4,828 points and a height of 1.72 meters in the high jump.  She also earned an All-America honor in the individual high jump, with a fourth-place finish.  During the indoor season, she registered all-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the high jump and a sixth-place finish in the long jump.  In addition, she is a three-time UAA Most Valuable Performer honoree, including during both the indoor and outdoor championships in 2013.  Ford capped off her academic career with a 3.76 GPA as a business major.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and be selected to an Academic all-District team.

A total of 12 Eagles landed Academic All-America status during the 2012-13 season, tying the program record originally set during the 2000-01 academic year.

Emory's athletes have now accumulated 145 Academic All-Americans during its history, 57 of which have been of the first-team variety.
