Women Finish 2nd, Men 3rd, at Emory Crossplex Invite; Adjibaba Breaks 200m Mark

Led by a program-record breaking performance in the 200-meter dash by junior Debora Adjibaba, the Emory University Women placed second in the team standings, and the men third, at the Emory Crossplex Invitational, hosted by the Eagles at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.

The women, ranked 11th in Division III, were the top-finishing Division III squad at the meet, scoring 82.5 points to finish behind only Georgia State (149 points).  The Emory men were the highest-finishing Division III squad as well, scoring 68 points to finish behind Lipscomb (146 points) and Alabama-Huntsville (85 points).  There were 19 teams competing on the women's side of the meet, and 16 on the men's.

Adjibaba was the top-Division III finisher in the 200-meter dash, claiming fourth overall in the event.  Her time of 25.34 seconds stands as the second-fastest by a D-III competitor this season, and broke the previous school record of 25.58 seconds, set by Monique Osigbeme at the 2009 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.  Adjibaba was also the top-Division III finisher in the 60-meter dash, claiming third overall with a time of 7.71 seconds, and helped lead the 4x400-meter relay team, along with junior Electra Korn, senior Morgan Monroe and freshman Alexa Young, to a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:06.09.

The Emory women added a pair of additional performances during the meet that rank among the best in Division III this season.  Korn was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.65 seconds, the fourth-best D-III time this year.  In the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, Monroe recorded a time of 9.14 seconds, 10th among Division III competitors this year, eventually finishing fourth in the finals of the event.  The Eagles' distance medley relay team of senior Emily Caesar, sophomore Julie Williamson, junior Marissa Gogniat and junior Stephanie Crane claimed second in the event, as their time of 12:21.58 ranks as the second-best D-III mark in 2014.

Crane added an individual top-finish by an Eagle, claiming third in the mile run with a season-best time of 5:11.86, while junior Ulrica Tull hit a personal record in the weight throw for the second-straight meet, finishing fourth overall with a distance of 13.69 meters.  Other top finishers for the Emory women included junior Hannah Smith in the 800-meter run (fourth place, 2:22.76), junior Elise Viox in the 3,000-meter run (ninth place, 10:42.35), freshman Sophie Cemaj in the 5,000-meter run (11th place, 19:37.47), junior Josephine Akinwumiju in the shot put (seventh place, 11.38 meters) and junior Katie Wilson in the high jump (fourth place, 1.56 meters).

For the second-straight week, senior Edward Mulder turned in one of the top individual performances of the day for the Emory men, winning the mile run with a time of 4:16.63, the 13th-fastest in Division III this season.  He later ran the first leg of the Eagles' sixth-place distance medley relay team, recording a time of 10:49.21 along with junior Ankush Mohile, freshman Jeffrey Chen, and freshman Grant Murphy

Sophomore Adam Rabushka recorded a career-best time of 8.60 seconds in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth in the event.  Sophomore Maxwell Hoberman was the Eagles' top finisher in a pair of individual events, finishing eighth in both the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.49 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters.  Hoberman and Rabushka also teamed with freshman Walker Marsh and senior Mike Moserowitz to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:25.50.
