Eagles Highlight Samford Invite with Top UAA Performances

The Emory University Men's 4x400-meter relay team, junior Stephanie Crane, sophomore Julie Williamson and junior Electra Korn led the way for the Eagles at the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex this weekend, each with a standout performance that ranked among the best in the University Athletic Association (UAA) this season.

The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Maxwell Hoberman, sophomore Adam Rabushka, senior Mike Moserowitz and junior Gui Silva finished 14th overall with a time of 3:21.82, the fastest this season by a UAA relay in the event.  The time also ranked as the sixth-fastest 4x400-meter relay mark in school history.

Silva added an individual 47th-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.85 seconds, while Hoberman claimed 22nd in the long jump with a leap of 13.40 meters.  In the 3,000-meter run, senior Alex Fleischhacker finished 22nd with a time of 8:41.76, the seventh-best by a UAA runner in 2014.

Adding on top finishes for the Emory men were freshman Michael Sisario in the 5,000-meter run (22nd place, 16:26.44), freshman Christian Johnson in the mile run (18th place, 4:25.46), and senior Eric Weiner in the 800-meter run (37th place, 1:59.59).

For the Emory women at the meet, Crane and Williamson finished 19th and 22nd, respectively in the 800-meter run.  Crane's time of 2:18.34 ranks as the third-best by a UAA competitor this year, while Williamson's mark of 2:18.67 was the fourth best.

Korn's time of 9.62 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles was her fastest of the season and the fourth-best in the UAA this year, and was good for a 26th-place finish in the 'A' heats of the event at the meet.  She was also the Eagles' top finisher in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.67 seconds, just off her season-best time.

In the 5,000-meter run, freshman Sophie Cemaj finished 20th overall with a time of 19:15.29, the eighth-fastest in the UAA in 2014.   Other top finishers for the Emory women included junior Hannah Parra in the 60-meter dash (40th place, 8.70 seconds), senior Emily Caesar in the mile run (26th place, 5:14.49), senior Meredith Lorch in the 3,000-meter run (27th place, 10:34.54), junior Katie Wilson in the high jump (23rd place, 1.56 meters), and junior Elaina Kim in the pole vault (26th place, 3.00 meters).

Emory will return to competition next weekend, when the squad is scheduled to head to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to take part in the UCL Invitational on Friday, February 14th and Saturday, February 15th.
