Emory Athletes Record Season-Best Times in Seven Events at UCS Invite

Despite facing a tough meet schedule, condensed to one day due to the weather conditions in the Southeast last week, the Emory University Track and Field Team set season-best times in seven events at the UCS Invitational, hosted by the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday.

Both of the Emory men's relays had good showings at the meet on Saturday.  The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Maxwell Hoberman, sophomore Adam Rabushka, senior Mike Moserowitz and junior Gui Silva finished seventh overall with a time of 3:24.76, the best time in the University Athletic Association (UAA) this season.  Meanwhile, the distance medley relay team of freshman Ian McIsaac, junior Ankush Mohile, junior Patrick Crews and freshman Brandon Cromer claimed fifth-place at the meet with a mark of 10:41.81, the fourth-fastest by a UAA squad this campaign.

Hoberman was the Eagles' top finisher in a pair of individual events as well, claiming third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.93 meters (.03 meters off his best jump of the year), and 22nd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.25 seconds, the fourth-fastest mark in the UAA in 2014.  He also finished 28th in the long jump with a leap of 6.06 meters, while Moserowitz was the Eagles' top finisher in the event with a distance of 6.33 meters.

Other Emory men's sprinters with strong performances included Silva, who placed 12th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.73 seconds (tied for the second-best mark in the UAA), and freshman Dennis Kamara, who recorded a time of 7.14 seconds in the 60-meter dash (the fourth-fastest in the UAA).  Rabushka added a 20th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 seconds.

In the distance events, senior Alex Fleischhaker had a breakout performance with a time of 15:12.91 in the 5,000-meter run, the third-fastest time in the UAA this year, finishing 15th overall at the meet.  Freshman Michael McBane finished 24th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:50.74, while senior William Matheson led all Eagles in the 800-meter run, finishing 31st with a time of 1:58.04, and freshman Christian Johnson claimed 23rd in the mile run with a mark of 4:24.36.

Sophomore Jacob Seigel paced the Eagles in the throws, recording a career-best distance of 13.09 meters in the shot put and finishing eighth overall in the event.  Sophomore Taylor Jarl added a throw of 12.40 meters in the weight throw to finish 27th in the event, while in the vertical jumps, senior Brandon Bassell claimed 18th with a height of 1.86 meters, and junior Louis Mennel finished 17th in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.65 meters.

For the Emory women, junior Katie Wilson matched her career-best mark in the high jump, registering a height of 1.60 meters, the second-best in the UAA this year and good for a 14th-place finish at the meet.  Junior Stephanie Crane added a ninth-place finish in the 800-meter run, the third-fastest time in the UAA in 2014, and the 25th-best in all of Division III.

Junior Debora Adjibaba paced the Eagles in a pair of sprint events, finishing ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.85 seconds and 14th in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.05 seconds.  Junior Electra Korn added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, hitting a mark of 58.50, while senior Morgan Monroe claimed 19th in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 9.32 seconds.

Two Eagles notched season-best marks in distance events, with junior Tamara Surtees finishing sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:52.84, and senior Meredith Lorch taking 19th in the 3,000-meter run, registering a time of 10:30.72.  Senior Emily Caesar added a time of 5:17.36 in the mile run, finishing 35th overall.

Other top finishers in the field events for the Emory women included junior Ulrica Tull in the weight throw (17th, 13.52 meters), junior Josephine Akinwumiju in the shot put (16th, 10.70 meters) and sophomore Alexandra Aiello in the pole vault (11th, 2.75 meters).
