Eagles Win 12 Events at Mountain Laurel Invite

Emory University athletes combined to win 12 individual events at the Mountain Laurel Invitational on Friday, hosted by the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, as the men finished in first place in the team standings, and the women in third at the meet.

The men totaled 201 points to finish first out of the six teams in action.  Birmingham-Southern College placed second with 183 points, followed by the University of the South in third with 98 points.  The Emory women registered 147 points to finish behind only Birmingham-Southern, which scored 173.  West Georgia College placed third in the women's team standings with 139 points.

Senior Morgan Monroe won three events at the meet for the Emory women, claiming first in each of the 100-meter dash (12.64 seconds), 200-meter dash (26.21 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles (14.78 seconds).  Junior Ulrica Tull registered a career-best mark in the hammer throw, winning the event with a throw of 45.84 meters, the second-best mark in the UAA this season.  Other first-place finishes from Emory women came from junior Marissa Gogniat in the 1,500-meter run (4:50.57), freshman Mackenzie Levy in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:41.60), junior Elaina Kim in the pole vault (3.05 meters) and junior Madison Hoeninghausen in the javelin throw (31.67 meters).

Event winners for the men included sophomore Maxwell Hoberman in the 400-meter dash (49.92 seconds), sophomore Adam Rabushka in the 400-meter hurdles (56.96 seconds), senior Brandon Bassell in the high jump (1.85 meters) and sophomore Jacob Seigel in the discus throw (43.37 meters).  Freshman Ian McIsaac finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.06, the best time in the event this season by an Eagle.

The Eagles will now turn their attention towards the 2014 University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be held next Saturday and Sunday, April 26th and 27th, at the University of Chicago.
