Adjibaba Sets School 100m Dash Record at Cardinal Twilight

Emory University junior Debora Adjibaba broke the school record in the women's 100-meter dash to lead the squad at the Cardinal Twilight at the University of Louisville, the team's final meet before the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Adjibaba finished fourth in the event with a time of 12.03 seconds, breaking the previous school record of 12.11 seconds, set by former Eagle Jane Ukandu during the 2006 season.  The time ranks as the 10th-fastest by a Division III competitor this season, putting Adjibaba in a strong position to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event.

Two other Eagles put themselves in a position to qualify for the NCAA Championships, based on their performances on Friday.  Senior Meredith Lorch finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 10:55.04, ranking her 17th in Division III, entering the day.  The time was also the fifth-fastest mark ever by an Eagle in the event.

Junior Electra Korn improved in a pair of events.  She finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.04 seconds, the third-fastest time ever by an Eagle and tied for the ninth-fastest in Division III this season, and claimed third-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.08 seconds, tied for 33rd in the nation.

Other Emory women in action on Friday included senior Morgan Monroe in the 100-meter hurdles (11th, 15.01 seconds), junior Stephanie Crane (ninth, 2:15.35) and sophomore Julie Williamson (13th, 2:17.89) in the 800-meter run, and Adjibaba in the 200-meter dash (fourth, 25.49 seconds).  Emory's women's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Harley Barrera, Korn, Monroe and Adjibaba finished second with a time of 48.00 seconds.

The Emory men competed in the 4x400-meter relay, with junior Zachary Rosenberg, sophomore Adam Rabushka, sophomore Maxwell Hoberman and junior Gui Silva winning the event in a time of 3:15.94.

Emory will now await the announcement of the selection of the field for the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio from Thursday, May 22nd – Saturday, May 24th.  With Friday night marking the end of the qualification period for the meet, the NCAA will announce the top-22 declared women, top-20 declared men and top-16 declared relays for each event on NCAA.org by Sunday at 9:00 AM ET.
