Emory Track & Field Finishes Second at Crossplex Invitational

The Emory University Men's and Women's Track and Field Team each turned in second-place finishes at the Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday.

The men accumulated 70.5 points during the meet to finish second only to Lipscomb University, which finished with 92 points.  Benedict College rounded out the top three on the men's side, finishing the meet with 64 points.  Emory's women, which totaled 78.5 points, also finished second to Lipscomb (110.5 points), with Queens University (65 points) claiming third place.

Emory's athletes turned in a number of top performances in the program's history during the course of the meet.  Senior Electra Korn led the way for the women, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.57 seconds, the fastest time in the event in Division III this year, and the second-fastest time in school history.  She also had the second-fastest time in program history and in Division III this season in the 200-meter dash, finishing second in the event with a time of 25.18 seconds, and had the 25th-fastest time in Division III in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 9.29 seconds in the preliminaries.

Junior Julie Williamson added another first-place finish for the women, winning the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 2:16.17, the sixth-fastest mark in the program's history and the ninth-best in Division III for the campaign.  The Eagles' distance medley relay team of freshman Halle Markel, freshman Erica Fischer, freshman Gabrielle Stravach and senior Elise Viox added a sixth-place finish in the event with a time of 13:01.56, the 20th-fastest in Division III, while freshman Zoe Fowler finished fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.38 meters, the seventh-best in school history.

For the men, freshman Daniel Pietsch won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.12 seconds, the seventh-fastest mark in school history and tied for the ninth-fastest in Division III this season.  In addition, Pietsch joined freshman Benjamin Rogin, senior Zachary Rosenberg and junior Adam Rabushka to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:21.15, the fourth-fastest time in school history and the sixth-fastest in Division III this year.

Junior Spencer Koh won the pole vault after clearing the bar at a career-best height of 4.40 meters, the sixth-best mark ever by an Eagle, while senior James Bassen finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 14.20 meters, tied for the 10th-best distance in the program's record book.  In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Shane Sullivan finished fourth with a time of 8:41.99, the fastest by a University Athletic Association competitor for the campaign and the sixth-fastest mark ever by an Eagle. 

Emory is scheduled to be back in action at the Hilton Garden Innvitational on January 30th and 31st, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the JDL Fast Track.
