The Emory University Eagles opened competition at the 2015 Emory Track and Field Classic on Friday afternoon, recording first-place finishes in five events during the first day of the meet.
For the men, junior Lukas Mees won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:28.00, the eighth-best mark in school history, while junior Adam Rabushka won the 400-meter hurdles for the second-straight meet with a time of 54.49 seconds. The Emory men also claimed a win in the 4x800-meter relay, as sophomore Grant Murphy, freshman Jordan Flowers, senior Kevin Delaney and freshman Max Brown ran a time of 7:56.34.
In addition, senior James Bassen won the javelin throw with a distance of 54.42 meters, while junior Spencer Koh finished second with a mark of 48.88 meters.
Claiming a win on the women's side was senior Katie Wilson, who finished first in the high jump after clearing the bar at a height of 1.59 meters. Senior Hannah Parra added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 1:06.38, while both junior Aileen Rivell and sophomore Mia Eisenhandler cleared the 40-minute mark in the women's 10,000-meter run, finishing fourth and fifth with times of 39:23.82 and 39:27.58, respectively.
The Emory men are in first-place after one day with 65 points, while the Eagles are second in the women's standings with 47 points.
