Eagles to Begin Final Stretch of Season at Georgia Invitational

Emory University will continue its 2015 outdoor track and field season this weekend, when the Eagles travel in-state to the Georgia Invitational, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens on Saturday, May 9th.

Field events at the Georgia Invitational are scheduled for a 9:00 am start on Saturday, with running events on the track slated to kick off at 11:30 am.  Fans can follow the action with live results at http://www.spato.us/cresults/2015/gainvite/.

With the University Athletic Association Championships now behind them, the Eagles will be carrying a smaller group to the meet, with the focus shifting to improving on qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III Championships at the end of the month.

With the top-22 individuals and 16 relays in each event earning qualification, currently five Eagles are in position to receive a spot in the NCAA Championships – freshman Daniel Pietsch in the men's 400-meter dash (47.50 seconds, fourth in D-III), sophomore Grant Murphy in the men's 1,500-meter run (3:50.94, 12th in D-III), junior Adam Rabushka in the men's 400-meter hurdles (53.56 seconds, 16th in D-III), senior Hannah Smith in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:57.50, 17th in D-III) and senior James Bassen in the men's javelin throw (61.87 meters, eighth in D-III).

Other Eagles who currently rank in the top-50 nationally in their respective events include freshman Erica Goldman in the women's 400-meter dash (57.00 seconds, 38th in D-III), junior Julie Williamson in the women's 800-meter run (2:13.69, 34th in D-III), freshman Caitlin Cheeseboro in the women's 100-meter hurdles (14.92 seconds, 46th in D-III), junior Lukas Mees in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:25.82, 32nd in D-III) and senior Scott Greathouse in the high jump (2.00 meters, 39th in D-III).

Scheduled to compete at the meet for Emory on Saturday are senior Katie Wilson (high jump), Mees (3,000-meter run), Cheeseboro (100-meter hurdles), freshman Benjamin Rogin (110-meter hurdles), senior Marissa Gogniat (1,500-meter run), Murphy (1,500-meter run), freshman Max Brown (1,500-meter run), freshman Jordan Flowers (1,500-meter run), Goldman (400-meter dash and 200-meter dash), Greathouse (high jump), freshman Julia Leventhal (100-meter dash and 200-meter dash), junior Jacob Seigel (discus), Williamson (800-meter run), senior Kevin Delaney (800-meter run), junior Josh Traynelis (800-meter run), sophomore Ian McIsaac (800-meter run), senior Hannah Parra (400-meter hurdles), Rabushka (400-meter hurdles), Pietsch (200-meter dash), and the men's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Zachary Rosenberg, Rabushka, Pietsch and junior Spencer Koh.
