Three School Records Fall at the Dr. Keeler Invitational

Three School Records Fall at the Dr. Keeler Invitational

Three school records were broken on Friday night as the Emory University track & field teams wrapped up competition at the Dr. Keeler Invitational held at North Central College in Naperville, IL.

Sophomore Gabrielle Stravach started the afternoon by breaking the 1500m Run record with a time of 4:36.42 to finish sixth in the event. Her time bested Stephanie Crane's mark of 4:40.70 which was set back in April of 2012 at the Duke Invitational.

Senior Julie Williamson followed by out-doing herself in the 800m Run. Not even a week after setting the school record at the Kentucky Relays with a time of 2:11.87, a mark that stood for 26 years, the Chatham, NJ native ran a 2:11.78 in a fifth place showing. With her time on Friday, Williamson moved up one spot to no.-20 nationally in the event.

Senior Lukas Mees rounded out the Emory performers on the evening by shattering the school record in the 3000m Steeplechase. Mees posted a time of 9:03.27 to finish fifth in the race, a time made all the more impressive with the fact that he did it during a driving rain storm. The Marion, IA native out-ran his previous school record time of 9:10.58 which he set at North Central's Gregory Invitational last May. Mees, who entered competition with the 23rd best time in the country, moved up to sixth nationally with his effort on Friday night.

Other Eagles at the meet were freshman Amanda Martin who ran a personal best mark of 17:45.99 to finish ninth in the 5000m Run and sophomore Shane Sullivan who clocked in with a time of 15:14.14 in the 500m Run, both on Thursday evening.

Emory finishes up the weekend with nine more Eagles in action on Sunday afternoon at North Carolina A&T's Aggie Last Chance Meet in Greensboro, NC.
