Track & Field Teams Sweep Emory Classic

Both the Emory University men's and women's track & field teams took first place at the Emory Classic this past weekend. The women cruised to the win, scoring 209 team points, 76 more than second place Jacksonville State while the men edged out Hope 199-186.

The women were paced by six event wins including a sweep of all three relays. The 4x100 relay of senior Alexandra Aiello, sophomore Julia Leventhal and freshmen Dilys Osei and Dani Bland won with a time of 48.75 with Osei and Leventhal ran the first two legs of Emory's 4x400 relay team with freshman Ariana Newhouse and sophomore Erica Goldman that crossed the finish line first at 3:53.94. The 4x800 team of freshman Kayla O'Shea, senior Julie Williamson, freshman Radhika Shah and junior Alexa Young claimed first place with a time of 9:22.54. In the individual events, Goldman won the 400m Dash with a time of 56.59, sophomore Megan Waples claimed the 5,000m Run at 18:06.62 and sophomore Abigail Hotaling won the 3000m Steeplechase running a time of 11:41.50.

Other top performers for the Eagles at the meet were Bland in both the 100m Dash (2nd, 12.37) and 200m Dash (4th, 26.21), Leventhal in the 100m Dash (3rd, 12.54), Newhouse in the 400m Dash (57.47), Williamson in the 800m Run (2nd, 2:14.76), sophomore Gabrielle Stravech in the 1500m Run (3rd, 4:42.61), senior Aileen Rivell (2nd, 38:32.55) and junior Sophie Cemaj (3rd, 39.13.35) in the 10000m Run, Osei in both 100m (3rd, 15.36) and 400m (2nd, 1:05.73) Hurdles and sophomore Gabrielle Rudolph in the 3000m Steeplechase (2nd, 11:57.21).

In the field, Emory was led by third place finishes by freshman Jordan Small in the high jump (1.55m) and Aiello in the long jump (3rd, 5.20m). Aiello added a fourth place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 10.63m. Freshman Kaleena Jesson was fourth in the pole vault at 2.70m and sophomore Kora Dreffs was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 11.38m.

On the men's side, Emory saw four individual event winners and a pair of relay teams take first to lead the Eagles. Sophomore Max Brown won the 1500m Run at 3:58.79 while junior Michael McBane claimed the 5000m Run with a time of 15:29.22. Seniors Spencer Koh and Jack Seigel were winners in the pole vault and discus, respectively. Koh posted a mark of 4.00m in the pole vault and Seigel won the discus for the second straight week with a mark of 43.65.

For the relays, the 4x400 team of Koh, juniors Kyle Veator and Ian McIssac and sophomore Daniel Pietsch won the event with a time of 3:21.62 and the 4x800 relay squad of Brown, senior Josh Traynelis, McIsaac and sophomore Robert Wilhelm crossed the finish line at 7:51.97.

Other top showings for Emory at the meet were Pietsch in the 200m (2nd, 21.96), McIsaac in the 400m (49.74), sophomore Shane Sullivan (2nd, 4:03.92) and Traynelis (3rd, 4:05.00) in the 1500m, senior Lukas Mees in the 5000m (3rd, 15:38.64), junior Austin Hunt in the 10000m (2nd, 33:34.47), sophomore Benjamin Rogin in both the 110m (2nd, 15.49) and 400m (3rd, 55.68) Hurdles, junior Michael Sisario in the 3000m Steeplechase (3rd, 9:48.02) and freshman Zachary Lembersky in the discus (2nd, 39.25m).

Emory returns to action next weekend with the Vertklasse Meet at High Point University.
