Track & Field Post Strong Marks at Carolina Challenge

The Emory University Track and Field teams saw several standout performances Friday afternoon at the Carolina Challenge in Columbus, South Carolina. The meet is hosted by the University of South Carolina.

Freshman Brett Henshey continued his strong freshman campaign, tying for first place in the high jump with Alabama’s Carl Nesbitt with a mark of 2.01m. Henshey’s new personal-best moved him into sole possession of the fifth spot on the program’s all-time list.

The Eagles saw four additional personal-bests set by sophomores on the men’s side with Jack Whetstone (8:37.44) and John Cox (8:45.93) in the 3000m Run, Liam Fost in the 400m Dash (49.37) and Jacob Hedgepeth in the Mile (4:20.19). Fost also checked in with a 7.25 in the 60m Dash.

Freshman Jacob Solomon posted a 7.23 in the 60m Dash while classmate William McGuire ran a 4:25.27 in the Mile and senior Bennett Shaw clocked in at 9:10.32 to round out the men’s performers on Friday.

For the women, senior Paris Wagner placed fifth, the best non Division I finish, in the weight throw with her mark of 15.20m while sophomore Susannah Martin earned a top-10 finish in the 3000m Run with a new PR of 10:36.98.

Adding personal-bests for the women on Friday were senior Dilys Osei (59.48) and freshman Hannah Lansberry (59.67) in the 400m Dash and senior Paige Lesslauer in the 3000m Run at 10:45.06. Osei added a time of 9.51 in the 60m Hurdles with Lansberry registering an 8.35 in the 60m Dash.

Senior Dani Bland turned in times of 7.92 and 1:01.54 in her two events in the 60m and 400m and in the Mile, sophomore Carrie McIntyre ran a 5:18.38 followed by junior Ileana Zeissner at 5:34.93. Senior Kora Dreffs was also in action at the meet, taking 12th in the shot put with a distance of 11.37m.

Emory continues competition this weekend with the Tiger Indoor Invitational all day Saturday in Sewanee, Tennessee.
