Track & Field Teams Place Second at Emory Crossplex Showdown

In the Emory University indoor track & field team's return to action in the new semester, both the men's and women's teams finished second place overall in their respective team standings at the Emory Crossplex Showdown Sunday afternoon in Birmingham, AL.

The women's distance medley team of Bella Racette, Libby Ranocha, Lauren Cunlid, and Liesl Scherrer had an outstanding day finishing in first place with a time of 12:37.71. Sophomore Lily Taylor set a PR in the 800m event with a time of 2:22.58 which was good for a third-place finish. In her indoor debut, freshman Libby Ranocha had a phenomenal day placing second in the 400m event with her time of 1:00.98. Freshman Caroline Hansen was the top finisher for the Eagles in both the 60m hurdle event (9.45 seconds) and the triple jump event (10.74m).

In field events, freshman Alex Feurer made a splash in her debut as she placed third in the pole vault event clearing 3.05m. Freshman Sarah Fineman made her first appearance as an Eagle as well and placed fifth in the shotput event with a throw of 11.29m.

For the men, freshman Jackson Price had a strong day finishing with a time of 22.37 in the 200m dash, a time that ties for the tenth best time in men's program history. In the mile event, teammates Spencer Watry and Marcus Cheema finished in first and second place with times of 4:18.8 and 4:20.18, respectively. Senior Jon Marcus had a career day, setting a PR in the 3000m run with a time of 8:39.78, good for a third-place finish.

Over in field events for the men, teammates Brett Henshey and Geoff Point-Du-Jour finished in the top two podium spots in the high jump with heights of 1.85m and 1.80m, respectively. Elsewhere, sophomore Kenya Sei competed in the indoor weight throw for the first time where he threw a distance of 14.09m, resulting in a second-place finish.

The Eagles return to action next weekend, venturing back to the Birmingham Crossplex for the Samford Bulldog Open January 21-22.
