Eagles Take Third Place Finish at UAA Indoor Championships

The Emory University men's indoor track & field team turned in a third place finish at the UAA Indoor Championships in Waltham, Massachusetts by virtue of registering eight All-UAA performances on Sunday.

The Eagles finished just eight points out of first place as they accumulated 136 points across 16 events over the course of the two day championships. The WashU Bears captured the UAA crown, scoring 144 points while the Carnegie Mellon Tartans finished in the silver medalist position with 140.33 points. On top of their 11 All-UAA performances this weekend, the Eagles also finished the meet with four individual UAA titles two of which came on Sunday.

Junior Dawit Dean garnered an All-UAA honor by virtue of winning the 400m dash final as he recorded a time of 49.83 seconds. Freshman Bryce Wurster also earned an All-UAA nod as a result of his third place finish in the 400m dash as he hit a time of 50.74 seconds. 

Dean and Wurster were a part of the other Eagles UAA title winning event along with senior Tommy Davis and sophomore Tristan Moore as they took home the crown in the 4x400 relay as they crossed the finish line in 3:21.09 the fifth fastest time in program history. 

Davis earned another All-UAA selection as a result of his third place finish in the 200m dash final as he raced to a time of 22.49 seconds. Davis also competed in the 60m dash final where he ran a time of 7.02 seconds good for fourth place.

After being named the UAA Freshman of the Year last season, sophomore Jackson Price showed out again this year placing third in the 60m dash to garner All-UAA honors with a time of 6.99 seconds which is good for the sixth best time in program history. Price also competed in the 200m dash final where he slotted into fourth place crossing the finish line in 22.58 seconds. 

The final All-UAA performer on the track was senior Brett Lucas who logged a time of 8:22.70 in the 3,000m run, the second fastest time in program history, to come in third in the race.

On the field, freshman Simon Stumbris earned his first ever All-UAA honor as he turned in a second place finish in the triple jump as he hit a distance of 13.90m. Freshman Steven Ditelberg placed third in the pole vault to earn the final All-UAA selection for Emory as he reached a height of 4.49m.

Other scorers for the Eagles included sophomore Sam Ryba who placed seventh in the 60m dash (7.07) and sixth in the 200m dash (22.94). Also competing in the short distances, Moore placed fifth in the 400m dash notching a time of 51.19 seconds. 

Competing in the 800m run final, junior Spencer Watery (1:53.05) and sophomore Marcus Cheema (1:53.23) finished back-to-back as they ended in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The final competitors on the track were junior Scott Masterson and senior Spencer Moore who came in seventh and eighth in the one mile run with times of 4:19.46 and 4:19.80, respectively.

Sophomore John Zhai placed just outside of All-UAA placement as he came in fourth in the triple jump with a recorded distance of 13.78m. competing in the shot out, senior Michael Tiffin placed eighth to earn the Eagles a point with his distance of 12.80m. 

The Eagles will compete in one final regular season meet this upcoming weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifier in Boston as the Emory athletes get one last chance to qualify for the national meet.
