Track and Field Starts Indoor Season at BSC Icebreaker

The Emory University track and field team kicked off the indoor season on Friday at the Birmingham-Southern Icebreaker in Birmingham, Alabama with strong performances around the team including a record-breaking performance.

On the field for the men, sophomore Henry Brandstadter looked to capitalize on his incredible freshman campaign finishing second din the long jump with a distance of 7.08m. His distance of 7.08m is the ninth best in program history and he now holds six of the top-ten best times in school history. He also picked up an 11th place finish in the high jump reaching 1.85 m. Junior Geoff Point-du-Jour recorded an eighth place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.90m.

Elsewhere on the field, sophomore Steven Ditelberg recorded a top ten finish in the pole vault, placing eighth as a result of reaching a height of 4.15m.

On the track for the men, freshman Jayden Bai qualified for the semi-final heat of the 60m hurdles with a personal record time of 8.86 and sophomore teammate Jason Huang also qualified for the semi-finals with a time of 8.79, another personal record. Junior Chris Belz led the distance runners finishing second in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:36.19, the third best time in program history. Senior Dawit Dean also had a top-ten finish in the 800 finishing at 1:54.14 while junior Jackson Price started his season strong with a sixth place finish in the 200m dash and a time of 22.19.

On the field for the women, graduate transfer Nikki Boon saw her first top-ten finish with the Eagles and led the way for the women posting a distance of 12.00m in the shot put while junior Caroline Hansen registered a distance of 10.89m in the triple jump for a 14th place finish. Boon competed on both sides of the meet qualifying for the semi-final heat in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.93.

On the track for the women, senior Libby Ranocha led the way for the Eagles posting a 2:57.74 in the 1,000m to finish third and establish a new school record. Junior Dashiel Tao Harris qualified for the semi-final heat of the 60m dash with a personal record time of 7.78 while fellow junior Audrey Johnson posted a top-ten finish, and a personal record, in the 60m dash finishing at 7.69. Sophomore Payton Sullivan competed in the 800m recording an 11th place finish (2:31.09). Harris also posted a personal best 25.41 in the 200m dash later in the evening to finish 12th in the event. To round out the event, Mina Leopold, Paige Murdock, Boon and Ranocha registered a sixth place finish in the 4x400 relay (4:00.29).

The Eagles will send three athletes to the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, December 2 before returning to the track on January 14 to host the Emory CrossPlex Showdown in Birmingham, Alabama.
