Track and Field Competes in First Day of Camel City Invitational

The Emory University track and field program traveled to Winston Salem, North Carolina to compete in the first day of the Camel City Invitational, a meet comprised of all NCAA divisions, with athletes on both the men's and women's teams putting up impressive days. 

For the women, junior Audrey Johnson started the day tying her personal best with a time of 7.70 in the 60 preliminaries to qualify for the finals before taking a seventh place finish with a time of 7.83. Junior Mina Leopold took home a top-15 finish in the 400m seeded group finishing in 13th crossing the line at 1:02.20. Fellow junior Samantha Glass took 15th in the event with a time of 1:03.76. Continuing in the long sprints was sophomore Payton Sullivan competing in the 600m taking 14th with a time of 1:47.76. Her time was a personal best and ranks 59th in Division III this season according ot TFRRS. The group of Johnson, freshmen Hannah Riley and Annabelle Tanner and junior Caroline Hansen competed in the 4x400 relay taking a second place finish with a time of 4:04.38.

On the field side for the women, Riley finished in a tie for eighth in the pole vault with a height of 3.35m. Hansen also took home a top-30 finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.85m.

Senior Kenya Sei led the way for the men breaking another school record in the weight throw with a distance of 16.93m distance good for a second place finish. This is the second consecutive meet Sei has broken the weight throw program record. Sophomore Henry Brandstadter also had an impressive day taking home a first place finish in the long jump with a distance of 7.23m, the sixth best in Division III this season. Junior Geoff Point-du-Jour finished the day with a ninth place tie in the high jump with a height of 1.85m.

On the track for the men, freshman Theodore Drye had a great day taking a third place finish in the 400m with a time of 50.54, the 80th best in Division III so far this season with graduate student Aiden Gilbert placing 14th in the event (52.27). Freshman Graham Greene crossed the finish line with a 50.48 in the seeded 400m taking a sixth place finish while junior Sam Ryba finished 10th in the 200m seeded group with a time of 23.06. Senior Tristan Olpin took another first place finish for the Eagles crossing the finish line in the 5000m with a time of 15:13.75, the 53rd best in Division III this season. Freshman Kirin Karver placed fourth in the event with a 15:29.61, the 88th best in the division this season. The 4x400m relay team of Price, Greene, Drye and senior Dawit Dean placed third in the event with a time of 3:24.82, the 25th best time so far this season in Division III.

The Eagles will return to the track tomorrow for the second and final day of the Camel City Invitational with field events beginning at 9:30 am and track beginning at 10:25 am.
