Dawit Dean & Sarah Fineman Set Program Records at Lynchburg, Berry Meets

Two more school records fell for the Emory University track & field teams as the program saw its split squad concluded competition at the Berry Field Day Invitational and at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic at Lynchburg University.

Following three record-breaking performances yesterday the Eagles were back at it on Saturday, starting on the track in Virginia. Senior Spencer Watry held the 800m record for just one week before classmate Dawit Dean snatched it from him. Both runners went under Watry's time from last week, with Dean posting a mark of 1:49.25 and Watry running a 1:49.35 to place second and third in the event. A few hours later in Georgia, junior Sarah Fineman was making her mark in the shot put as she matched the previous school record with her throw of 12.97m.

In addition to the two records being smashed, the Eagles combined to see four first place finishes on Saturday.

At Lynchburg, junior Sam Ryba, sophomore Henry Brandstadter, graduate student Aidan Gilbert and junior Jackson Price registered a season-best time in the 4x100m with their time of 41.40 and in the 3000m Steeplechase, freshman Cameron Gupta ran a 11:29.57 to be the top performer.

At Berry, the Eagles saw their women's 4x100m consisting of juniors Maura Dianno, Dashiel Tao Harris, Kaya Binetti and Audrey Johnson team up to win with a time of 47.02 and in the javelin, freshman Mable Mutumwa turned in a distance of 39.84.

The Coaches Classic meet featured several other notable finishes with Price running a 10.74 to place third in the 100m Dash before he posted a 21.87 to take fifth in the 200m. A trio of Eagles ran under 2:16.00 in the 800m to finish inside the top-five, led by sophomore Luna McCauley who went for 2:15.64 to finish in the silver position. Brandstadter represented the Eagles in the field events, taking fourth in the long jump at 1.95m.

The Field Day Invitational also had sophomore Steven Ditelberg PR in the pole vault at 4.58m, moving him to fourth all-time in Emory history in the event. Senior Amaya Martin was second in the 100m Hurdles at 15.09 while Harris (3rd, 57.08), Johnson (6th, 58.46) turned in top efforts in the 400m Dash.

The Eagles finished second in the women's competition with 116.5 points and were seventh in the men's portion with 45 points. There was no team scoring at Lynchburg.

Emory will stay local next weekend with the Georgia Tech Invitational before heading to Pittsburgh the following week for the UAA Championships.
