Watry Breaks Program Record; Track and Field Competes at Georgia Tech Invitational

The Emory University track and field program opened the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational competing against Division I and Division II athletes.

Senior Spencer Watry highlighted the day for the Eagles breaking yet another program record, this time in the 1500m. He took home a 10th place finish in the event with a record breaking time of 3:49.47, the best time amongst Division III runners. Also competing in the 1500m was senior Scott Masterson who finished 25th (3:54.67) and sophomore Nikhil Makker finishing 29th (3:55.36).

Also on the track for the men was junior Sam Ryba taking 44th in the 100m with a 10.91 mark, the best time of Division III athletes. Junior Caleb Bunch (67th, 11.17) and freshman Theodore Drye (75th, 11.17) also saw action in the 100m dash followed by freshman Sebastian Kou taking 37th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.02 seconds. Teammate Jason Huang followed right behind with a 38th place finish running an 18.33.

Leading the way on the field for the men was senior Kenya Sei who took home an eighth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.80m. Freshman Tyler Edwards also competed in the event finishing 23rd with a mark of 36.56. Sophomore Chris Summey finished the day for the men with a 14th place finish in the javelin throwing a 45.08m mark.

Starting things on the track for the women was junior Audrey Johnson who competed in the 100m dash. She finished 15th in the event running an 11.96. Also taking home a top-30 finish was senior Lily Taylor in the 1500m with a time of 4:40.20 while junior Jenna Daly finished close behind with a time of 4:44.50. Rounding out the day for the women was senior Amaya Martin who had the best Division III time in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.93, good for a 24th place finish. 

The Eagles will finish the Georgia Tech invitational tomorrow beginning at 12:00 PM.
