James Goss, a former national track Athlete of the Year, joined the Emory staff in Fall 2001.

Goss is a 2001 graduate of Lynchburg College (Va.) where he was a 10-time track All-American. His senior year, he was cited as the national track Athlete of the Year for NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track Coaches Association. In 2001, Goss was the NCAA national long jump champion for indoor track, and finished fifth in the decathlon and sixth in the long jump at the NCAA outdoor championships.

Goss earned four career All-America citations in the long jump, two for indoor and two for outdoor. He was a two-time All-American in the decathlon, finishing third at the 2000 NCAA outdoor championships and fifth the following year. Goss received four more All-America certificates as part of relays, two indoors and two outdoors.

In addition to his national Athlete of the Year honors, Goss was a five-time regional Athlete of the Year by the USTCA, and a six-time conference Athlete of the Year by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Goss was honored as Lynchburg's Male Senior Athlete of the Year in 2001. The school also honored him as its male Athlete of the Year in 1999.

At the time of his graduation, Goss held seven school records, including the indoor long jump and the outdoor 200-meter marks. He served as a track team captain for three years.

He received honorable mention for Lynchburg's Dean's List on two occasions.
