The Emory men’s cross country team claimed third place out of
23 squads at the 2011 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships
on Saturday. Serving as host of this year’s Regional
Championships was Texas Lutheran University.
Emory totaled 163 points and trailed first-place Lynchburg (112
pts.) and runner-up Centre College (113 pts.). Guilford took
home fourth place with 193 points while Bridgewater rounded out the
top five with 194 points.
Senior Geraint Davies highlighted the
Eagles’ effort, clocking a 26:40 over the 8k course that
ranked ninth out 174 runners. By virtue of his showing,
Davies earned a spot in next Saturday’s NCAA D-III
Championships in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Junior
Stephen Ellwood turned in a strong race with his
time of 26:41, good for the No. 10 spot. Sophomore
Alex Fleischhacker was the third Eagle to cross
the finish line with a 27:34 that placed 32nd.
With their finishes Davies, Ellwood and Fleischhacker each earned
all-region honors. Sophomore Eddie Mulder
(27:56, 41st) and senior Tim Halinski
(28:37, 71st) rounded out the Eagles’ scorers.
