Results

The Emory men’s cross country team claimed third place out of 23 squads at the 2011 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday.  Serving as host of this year’s Regional Championships was Texas Lutheran University.

Emory totaled 163 points and trailed first-place Lynchburg (112 pts.) and runner-up Centre College (113 pts.).  Guilford took home fourth place with 193 points while Bridgewater rounded out the top five with 194 points.

Senior Geraint Davies highlighted the Eagles’ effort, clocking a 26:40 over the 8k course that ranked ninth out 174 runners.  By virtue of his showing, Davies earned a spot in next Saturday’s NCAA D-III Championships in Winneconne, Wisconsin.  Junior Stephen Ellwood turned in a strong race with his time of 26:41, good for the No. 10 spot.   Sophomore Alex Fleischhacker was the third Eagle to cross the finish line with a 27:34 that placed 32nd.  With their finishes Davies, Ellwood and Fleischhacker each earned all-region honors.  Sophomore Eddie Mulder (27:56, 41st) and senior Tim Halinski (28:37, 71st) rounded out the Eagles’ scorers.
