Emory Cross Country To Be Represented At A Pair Of Meets

The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams will send representatives to a pair of meets this weekend, headlined by the Eagles' top-tier runners competing at the Gibson Family Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, IN, on Saturday (Oct. 6). The Pre-Nationals event, will be conducted at the LaVern Gibson Course, site of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships, and hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.  The men's 8K race begins at noon (EDT) followed by the women's 6K at 12:45 p.m.

Approximately 34 women's and 32 men's teams hailing from 14 states will be taking to the course on Saturday.  The No. 24-ranked Emory women's side will be one of five programs in the field who are ranked among the nation's top-35 team.  Johns Hopkins enters the race with the highest women's ranking with a No. 3 spot in the national poll.  Claremont-Mudd Scripps, slotted 6th, is another top-10 team in the field.    The men also have five ranked teams competing with Augustana holding down the top spot at No. 12. 

Emory will also be represented at the 7th Annual Jacksonville State University Foothills Invitational, held at the Oxford Lake & Recreation Center in Oxford, Alabama.  The meet will take place on Friday (Oct. 5) with the  women's 5K race starting at 5:15 pm (CDT) and the men's 8K competition at 5:45 pm.

In the most recent action, both the Emory men's and women's teams posted first first-place finishes at the Gulf Coast Stampede (Sept. 22) in Pensacola, Florida.
