Emory Cross Country Teams Focus On UAA Championships

The Emory University men's and women's country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 27) when they compete at the 26th Annual University Athletic Association Cross Country Championships.  The competition will be held at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, NY.  The men's 8K race begins at 11:00 am, and will be followed by the women's 6k competition at noon.

The Emory women's team received votes in the most recent USTFCCCA national poll with the UAA claiming five squads ranked among the nation's top 35 D-III programs – No. 8 Chicago, No. 16 New York, No. 18 Case Western, No. 27 and defending league champ Washington University and No. 31 Rochester.   Last year, the Eagles posted a third-place finish at the league championships.

The UAA boasts six men's teams among the top 35 in the nation, with three of those squads among the top 20. Defending champ Wash U. is No. 10 while NYU stands 12th.   Rounding out the ranked teams are Carnegie Mellon (#19), Chicago and Rochester, both 22nd, and Case Western Reserve (#32).   Emory, ranked No. 1 in South/Southeast Region, is looking to move up the ladder after recording an eighth-place finish in 2011.
