2014 EMORY MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RECAP 

The 2014 Emory men's cross country team met its objective of showing continual improvement as well as maintaining a steady focus on running its collective best when it mattered most.

With a steady number veterans lifted by the emergence of some of the younger performers on the roster, the Eagles enjoyed a number of memorable moments.  The highlight of the campaign took place when Emory captured its first NCAA South/Southeast Region championship since 2009 when it edged runner-up Bridgewater by three points.  The Eagles had four runners rank among the top 13 overall finishers, including sophomore Grant Murphy who earned all-region acclaim after clocking a personal-best 8K time of 25:41 en-route to placing sixth in the 201-runner field.  Junior Lukas Mees and senior Alex Fleischhacker each captured all-region accolades by virtue of placing ninth and eleventh, respectively, while senior Tyler Cooke (13th), freshman Jordan Flowers (23rd) and sophomore Austin Hunt (28th)  were the team's other all-region honorees.

The No. 1 finish allowed the Eagles to move on and compete in the NCAA D-III Championships for the second straight year when it finished 29th. 

Emory competed at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble for the second consecutive season where it registered an 11th-place finish in a formidable 34-team field.  The Eagles then posted their second consecutive fifth-place effort at the conference championships where they were led by Mees, whose 12th-place finished enabled him to claim All-UAA Second Team honors. 

Mees was named the team's Most Valuable Runner after ranking among the team's top three finishers in all competitions.  Murphy was tabbed as the recipient of the Most Improved Runner Award, scoring for the team in all eight events.  Making the most of his final season, Cooke was tabbed for the Coaches' Award while Flowers was the Most Outstanding Newcomer.
