Emory Cross County Teams Return To Action

The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 15) when the squads split up to participate in a pair of competitions.  The Eagles will send a contingent to the  Second Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University, while also being represented at the Berry College Cross Country Invitational.  The Inter-Regional Border Battle will be held at Rowan University’s West Campus with the women’s 6K race beginning at 11:00 am and the men’s 8K at 11:45 am. The Berry College Invitational will see the men race an 8K starting at 9:00 am, followed by the women’s 6K at 10:00 am

The Rowan Inter-Regional Battle is a highly anticipated event and will feature approximately 50 men’s and women’s programs. A number of regionally and nationally ranked teams will be competing in both races including No. 1 SUNY-Geneseo, No. 5 MIT and No. 13 St. Lawrence on the men’s side and three of the top four women’s squads, No. 1 SUNY-Geneseo, No. 2 MIT and No. 4 Johns Hopkins.

The women’s team was ranked 22nd in the Oct. 5 national poll released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and No. 1 in the South/Southeast Region,
while the men’s held down the No. 25 spot nationally. The men are ranked second in the South/Southeast Region.

In their last action (Sept. 24), the women’s team recorded a third-place finish out of 39 squads and the men a fifth-place showing out of 43 programs at the Greater Louisville Classic.  In addition, the Eagles sent a pack to the JSU Foothills Invitational where the women posted a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams and the men a third-place performance out of 11 entries.
