The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 15) when the squads split up to participate in a pair of competitions. The Eagles will send a contingent to the Second Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University, while also being represented at the Berry College Cross Country Invitational. The Inter-Regional Border Battle will be held at Rowan University’s West Campus with the women’s 6K race beginning at 11:00 am and the men’s 8K at 11:45 am. The Berry College Invitational will see the men race an 8K starting at 9:00 am, followed by the women’s 6K at 10:00 am
The Rowan Inter-Regional Battle is a highly anticipated event and will feature approximately 50 men’s and women’s programs. A number of regionally and nationally ranked teams will be competing in both races including No. 1 SUNY-Geneseo, No. 5 MIT and No. 13 St. Lawrence on the men’s side and three of the top four women’s squads, No. 1 SUNY-Geneseo, No. 2 MIT and No. 4 Johns Hopkins.
The women’s team was ranked 22nd in the Oct. 5 national poll released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and No. 1 in the South/Southeast Region,
while the men’s held down the No. 25 spot nationally. The men are ranked second in the South/Southeast Region.
In their last action (Sept. 24), the women’s team recorded a third-place finish out of 39 squads and the men a fifth-place showing out of 43 programs at the Greater Louisville Classic. In addition, the Eagles sent a pack to the JSU Foothills Invitational where the women posted a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams and the men a third-place performance out of 11 entries.
