(Apr. 21) - Junior Kim Bandy helped the Eagles
to a 6-0 week, hitting a torrid .684 with 13 hits in 19 trips to
the plate. Bandy scored 13 runs, knocked in six and
registered seven stolen bases as Emory outscored its six foes by a
58-8 margin.
She posted one double, three triples and one home run during the
week as the Eagles raised their record to 27-9.
Bandy went 4-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBIs in a 12-0,
11-0 twin killing of Wesleyan College before collecting four hits
in six plate appearances in a sweep of LaGrange on Wed. (Apr. 16).
Her triple in the opening game knocked in the eventual deciding run
in a 5-1 outcome and she followed that performance by registering a
two-bagger and a triple in the nightcap as the Eagles prevailed by
an 8-0 count. She kept up her hot hitting on Sunday, going a
combined five-for-five in sparking Emory to another sweep of
LaGrange, 11-2 and 11-5. She picked up a hit in her only
official trip to the plate (walked four times) and scored three
times in the opener. In the finale, she went 4-for-4 (all
singles), scored three times and swiped two bases in an 11-5 win.
(Apr. 14) - Sophomore Cassie Walsh went 4-for-9
in a doubleheader split against Huntingdon College on Sunday
(Apr. 13). In addition, Walsh scored a pair of runs and stole
a base in each in each contest.
In a 6-0 first-game win against the Lady Hawks, Walsh recorded a
pair of safeties in four plate appearances, while rapping out two
hits in five trips to the plate in a 4-3, nine-inning setback in
the finale.
Walsh's performance represented her 12th and 13th multi-hit games
of the season and boosted her batting average to .356
(37-of-104). In addition, she paces the team in hits (37),
runs scored (29) and stolen bases.
(Apr. 7) - Junior Carey Smith-Marchi helped the
Eagles to a 4-0 week, hitting a hefty .545 with six hits in 11
trips to the plate. In addition, she recorded 10 RBIs and
scored five times in helping Emory run its record to 19-8.
Smith-Marchi socked a pair of homers and totaled 5 RBIs in a 17-2
first-game win against Spelman College and followed that
performance with a 2-for-3 effort with 3 RBIs in a 16-1 second-game
decision against the Jaguars. She helped the Eagles to a 5-3
triumph over Huntingdon in the first game of a twinbill on Sunday
by going 1-2 at the plate with an RBI and one run scored. In
the nightcap, her single in the bottom of the ninth scored Cassie
Walsh with the game-winning run in a 3-2 win.
Through games played April 6, she is hitting .368 (21-of-57) with
16 RBIs.
(Mar. 24) - Sophomore second baseman Caitlin
Fitzgerald swung a big bat for the Eagles in helping the
squad to a 3-2 week.
Fitzgerald batted .500 with eight hits in 16 trips to the plate and
also knocked in a team-leading five RBIs. She recorded hits
in all five contests and enjoyed three outings of multiple
safeties. She picked up a single and a double and knocked in
all three of Emory's runs in a 3-0 triumph against Greensboro
College on Friday (Mar. 21). The following day against
Greensboro, she registered two more hits including a two-run
double.
Through 22 games played, she posts a .323 batting average and is
second on the squad with 15RBIs.
(Mar. 17) - Junior third baseman Kim Bandy
started all eight games at the UAA Tournament and hit .455 with 10
hits in 26 plate appearances.
Bandy paced the team with 5 RBIs and also came up with three
doubles and a pair of home runs. She registered base hits in
six contests and enjoyed four multiple-hit contests. Her
round trippers came in games against Washington University and
boosted her career total to seven, good for a sixth-place tie on
the school's list. Her five RBIs upped her season total to
14, tops on the squad, and her career mark to 84, good for a
seventh-place tie on the school's all-time chart.
Through games played March 15, Kim is hitting .352 with 19 hits in
54 trips to the plate. She leads the squad in doubles (5), homers
(2) and RBIs (14).
(Mar. 3) -- Sophomore second baseman Caitlin
Fitzgerald batted .545 (6-of-11) and recorded three RBIs
in helping the Eagles to four wins.
In a 6-3 win against Adrian College on Feb. 28, she went
two-for-four with an RBI double in helping the Eagles to a 6-3
win. In the nightcap, she picked up two safeties in three
plate appearances as Emory recorded an 8-0 win.
Over the weekend, she picked up a hit and a RBI in each contest of
a twinbill in helping the Eagles to a sweep over Maryville
College. Fitzgerald knocked in the insurance run in the top
half of the seventh inning in the opener in a a 4-2
come-from-behind win. In the finale, she produced what proved
to be the deciding RBI with a single in an 8-0 triumph.
So far this year, Fitzgerald is batting .360 with nine hits in 25
trips to the plate.
(Feb. 25) - Junior pitcher Shanon
Andersen continued her impressive play on the mound for
the No. 13 Eagles, tossing a pair of complete games in helping the
squad to a split of a twinbill against No. 8-ranked DePauw.
In a 4-2 win over the Tigers, Andersen allowed nine hits, fanned
five batters and handled all five of her field chances perfectly.
She was even more effective in a 2-1, eight-inning setback, holding
DePauw hitless for the first seven frames before finishing with a
three hitter that saw her strike out five. She also knocked in the
team's only run in the game in the eighth inning.
So far this year, she has figured in all five of the team's
decisions (4-1) and has struck out 46 batters in 40 innings while
compiling an impressive 2.03 ERA. In addition, she is hitting at a
.357 clip with five hits in 14 trips to the plate.
(Feb. 18) - Junior pitcher Shanon Andersen
turned in a memorable opening weekend for the Eagles, tossing three
complete games while coming up with some clutch hits.
Andersen hurled a total of 25 innings and struck out 33 batters
while surrendering a total of six earned runs as Emory went 3-0. In
a season-opening 7-1 win over Greensboro College on Friday (Feb.
15), Andersen allowed just six hits while striking out 10 and
walking just one batter. In addition, she helped her cause at the
plate, rapping out a two-run double.
In the opening contest of the Emory Invitational, Andersen hurled
all 11 innings and gave up just one earned one and two hits while
whiffing 12 batters as the Eagles edged Greensboro, 4-3, in 11
innings. Andersen was both an offensive and pitching force on
Sunday as tossed her third complete game in as many days, striking
out 11 Maryville batters while going 3-for-3 at the plate with one
RBI. Andersen finished the three games with four hits in nine trips
to the plate for a .444 average while compiling an ERA of 2.16.
