The No. 15-ranked Emory softball team closes out the regular season portion of its schedule on Saturday (Apr. 19) when it plays a doubleheader at Maryville College starting at 1:00 pm.
The Eagles own a seven-game winning streak and stand 35-6 heading into the twinbill against the Scots. In its most recent action, Emory swept a pair of home doubleheaders last week, topping Covenant College, 9-2 and 9-1, before taking a pair against then No. 7 Piedmont College by 7-0 and 2-1 scores.
Senior Megan Light socked a pair of home runs in the opening game vs. Covenant, establishing a school seasonal record in the process with her Division III-leading 13th and 14th round trippers of the campaign, bettering her previous standard of 12 that she hit in 2013. Light posts a .488 hitting mark (59-of-121) that ranks first in the UAA and 45th nationally. The trio of Light, classmate Ally Kersthold and sophomore Hannah Sendel, have hit 19 doubles, good for a third-place tie on the Eagles' seasonal ladder.
Senior pitcher Amanda Kardys figured in three of the four wins last week, and has a formidable win-lost mark of 23-1, with her victory total tops among all D-III hurlers and second on Emory's seasonal chart. Over her last six outings, she has compiled an impressive ERA of 0.96 over 29 innings of action.
As a team, Emory is hitting .363, good for 20th place nationally, and ranks among the top 10 in the D-III ranks in doubles per game (2nd, 2.54 dpg), scoring (10th, 7.93) and slugging percentage (4th, .568).
