File & Pollard Earn UAA Softball Honors

Emory University junior Brittany File  (Carmel, CA) and senior Alyssa Pollard (Knoxville, TN) have been recognized by the University Athletic Association for their play in helping the Eagles' softball team to a 6-0 record during a road swing through Virginia.

File was selected as the UAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and sixth time in her career after figuring in five of the Eagles' wins.  She posted a 4-0 record and recorded one save, crafting an ERA of 0.75 over 24 innings of work, allowing just two earned runs, nine hits while striking out 30 batters. One of her efforts was a complete-game five hitter in Emory's 7-1 decision over Roanoke College. She fanned 10 Maroons in that contest, which represented the sixth time this season that she had posted a double-figure strikeout outing.
File notched her second save of the year in a 3-2 triumph over Bridgewater, hurling the seventh inning and striking out the side.  Through games played Mar. 26, File has racked up a won-lost effort of 23-1 with an ERA of 1.51 over 125 innings.   Her 23 victories and 189 strikeouts both rank third on the program's seasonal ladder.

Pollard was tabbed as the UAA Hitter of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time in her career after seeing action in all six contests and hitting a blazing .556, collecting a team-high 10 hits in 18 trips to the plate. She paced the squad with 11 runs scored, eight RBIs and tied for the team lead with three doubles.  She registered four multi-hit outings, including a 3-for-4 effort in the batter's box, while scoring twice in an eight-inning, 5-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader vs. Lynchburg.  In the first game of that twinbill against the Hornets, Pollard posted two hits and knocked in four runs in spearheading an 8-0 win.  She came through with a pair of hits and totaled her three RBIs with a bases-clearing double that highlighted a five-run second inning in a 12-0 rout of Bridgewater.  On the year, Pollard is No. 2 on the club and ninth among UAA players with a .432 batting average (38 of 88).  She is second on the team in hits, tied for second with 34 runs scored and paces all Eagles with nine stolen bases.

No. 2-ranked Emory has won its last 22 games and sports a won-lost record of 31-1.
