Emory Softball Rolls To Doubleheader Sweep Over Maryville College

The Emory softball team's winning streak now stands at five games following a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader sweep of Maryville College.  The Eagles posted a 7-2 victory in the opener followed by a five-inning, 9-1 triumph in the finale. Emory now stands 15-7 on the year while Maryville slips to 17-9.

GAME 1
** Sophomore Cassie Baca collects two hits and knocks in a pair of runs while Taylor Forte picks up a pair of safeties.
** Sophomore Lana Herrmann socked a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the second, her second round tripper of the season, to give Emory a 3-0 lead.
** The Eagles capitalize on a pair of MC fielding miscues in the bottom of the fourth and push three runs across the plate.  Baca strokes a two-run single to highlight the frame, scoring junior Ashley Powers and sophomore Sam Vincent.
** Sophomore pitcher Toko Miller came through with her second consecutive strong effort as a starter in the circle, throwing five shutout innings and allowing just five hits while striking out three.  The win upped her season record to 3-2.
** Senior Brittany File tossed the final 1 2/3 innings, fanning three Scots.

GAME 2
** Emory pounds out 11 hits, the eighth time this season it finished in double digits.
** Baca goes 2-for-3 with four RBIs
** Forte extends her hitting streak to seven games after posting a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with three RBIs.
** Both Baca and Forte have eight multi-hit contests this season, tying for the team lead.
** Emory gets on the board with a single in the bottom of the third when a two-out single by Forte plates Lana Herrmann.
** The Eagles tack on four runs in their half of the fourth as Baca and Forte come through with two-run singles.
** Maryville scores its lone run in the top of fifth and has the bases loaded with two outs, but sees the rally come to an end when centerfielder Jenna Wilson makes an outstanding running catch off the bat of Rachel Taylor.
** The Eagles close out the game in the bottom of the fifth with another four-run uprising. Powers dives in the first two on a single that scores Wilson and Amy Wray.  Baca follows with a two-bagger to left center that scores Janelle Turnquest and Powers, who just beats a throw to the plate.
** File goes all five innings in chalking up the win, her seventh in 10 decisions. She strikes out eight and surrenders just four hits.

Emory returns to action this weekend (Mar. 24-25) when it plays a doubleheader each day at Case Western Reserve.
