Brittany Files Lands UAA Softball Honor

Brittany Files Lands UAA Softball Honor

Emory University senior Brittany File (Carmel, CA) has been recognized by the University Athletic Association as Co-Pitcher of the Week following her record-setting performance in a four-game series vs. Brandeis.  She shares the honor with Molly Moran of the University of the Chicago.  It is the second time this season and 11th in her career that File has been recognized for the honor.

File became the Emory all-time leader in victories after tossing back-to-back shutouts against Brandeis on Saturday, April 8.  Her five-inning, three-hit whitewash of the Judges in a five-inning 8-0 decision in the final game of the series enabled her to claim her 74th career triumph in the circle, breaking the previous standard of 73 held by Nicole Kovski (2001-04).  File issued just one walk and fanned eight in boosting her season record to 11-4. Earlier in the day, she tied the record after firing a one-hit gem in sparking Emory to a 3-0 win, ending that contest with nine strikeouts.

All totaled, File made three appearances in the Brandeis series and did not allow a run in 13 1/3 innings of action.  She gave up just four hits and struck out a total of 21 batters.

So far this year, she has compiled an ERA of 1.95 over 104 1/3 innings, striking out 135 batters. Her average of 9.06 strikeouts per seven innings leads the UAA.

Emory, 23-13 overall and 6-6 in the UAA, returns to action the weekend of Apr. 21-22 when it plays a series at New York University.
