Sophomore Greta Wilker socked a leadoff home run in the top of the sixth inning that snapped a 1-1 tie and help propel the Emory softball team to a second-game victory and a sweep of a Friday doubleheader at Washington University. The Eagles captured the opener by a 1-0 count before registering a 4-1 triumph in the finale, raising their overall record to 15-7 and league mark to 6-0.  With the two setbacks, the Bears dipped to 6-8 in overall action, 0-2 in the league.

The Bears held a 1-0 advantage after pushing across an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth in the nightcap, but Emory knotted the score in its half of the fifth when senior Janelle Turnquest delivered a two-out, pinch-hit single that scored junior Sam Vincent from third.  Following Wilker's second round tripper of the campaign the following frame, the Eagles added a pair of insurance runs after the first two batters were retired in the top of the seventh, with sophomore Jessy McLean stroking a two-run single, her second hit of the game, that allowed Wilker and Sarah Katz to score.  Junior pitcher Toko Miller nailed the down the win, her fifth of the season, after coming in relief of starter Jacqueline Spizizen, throwing three innings of shutout ball that saw her strikeout four while giving up two safeties.

In the first game, Spizizen and the Bears' Anna McKee engaged in a pitching duel that saw both hurlers toss complete games.  Emory plated the lone run of the contest in the top of the third when center fielder Sarah Flanders led off with a double and then advanced to third following a ground out.  Junior Cassie Baca then came through with a sacrifice fly that allowed Flanders to score.  Spizizen allowed just two hits, a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth after retiring the first 11 batters she faced, and a leadoff triple in the bottom of the sixth, in earning the victory.  She fanned seven and did not issue any walks as she raised her season slate to 9-4. McKee, despite giving up just four hits, took the defeat, her third in seven decisions on the year.

Emory and Wash U go at it again on Saturday in doubleheader action with the first pitch slated for a 2:00 pm (CDT) start.
