2003-04 Athletes Of The Week

(March 1) - In her collegiate farewell game, Emory University's Stephanie Seibert recorded her ninth "double double" on the season against Case Western Reserve (OH). Seibert dropped 10 points and snatched 12 boards. She also tied her season-high with three blocks in the game. Only four Emory players have had more "double doubles" in a season. At season's end, Seibert started all 25 games for the Eagles, averaging 12.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game, all team highs.


(Feb. 23) - Emory University's Stephanie Seibert scored 58 points and grabbed 32 rebounds in three games last week. In a win over Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) Seibert dropped a season-high 24 points in only 25 minutes played. She was one rebound shy of a "double double." In her last home game Seibert recorded a "double double" against Oglethorpe University (Ga.). Seibert scored a team high 21 points and snatched 13 rebounds, playing only 23 minutes. Against University of Rochester (N.Y.), ranked No. 15 in the nation, Seibert recorded another "double double," scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, both game-highs. Seibert has six "double doubles" on the season. The senior now ranks second place on the school's all-time list for career points with 1,281.


(Feb. 16) - Emory University's Beth Bergmann scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds in two games over the weekend. Bergmann helped lead the team to a victory over the University of Chicago by totaling 12 points, five rebounds, and four steals in 36 minutes of play. Against Washington University, ranked eighth in the nation, Bergmann scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, and totaled five assists in 33 minutes. Bergmann has scored in double digits in five out of the last six games and is averaging 11.1 points per game for the season.


(Feb. 9) - Emory University's Beth Bergmann scored 32 points and grabbed seven rebounds in two games last weekend. Against New York University, ranked 15th in the nation by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, Bergmann dropped a career-high 24 points, while tying a career-high by grabbing six rebounds. She shot 5-of-6 from the free throw line and 5-of-9 from the field. Against Brandeis University (MA), Bergmann scored eight points in 27 minutes of play. She leads the team in assists per game (2.9), minutes played per game (30.5), and is third in points per game (10.8).


(Feb. 2) - Emory University's Stephanie Seibert scored 32 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in two games last weekend. Against Brandeis, Seibert recorded her fourth "double double" of the season, dropping 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, the latter a game high. Against New York University, ranked 17th in the nation by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, Seibert was one rebound shy of another "double double," snatching nine boards and scoring a game-high 17 points. She leads the team in points per game (11.8), rebounds per game (9.1), and blocks per game (0.9). Seibert needs eight points for third place on the school's all-time career scoring list.


(Jan. 26) - Lynn Oberschmidt scored 20 points, gathered 14 rebounds and added five steals over the course of two games for Emory University last week. In a game against Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.), Oberschmidt shot 67 percent from the field to score 17 points. She also added six rebounds and two steals. Against the University of Rochester (N.Y.), the top ranked team in the nation, Oberschmidt pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals and a block, while scoring three points. Oberschmidt is averaging a team-best 12.1 points per game this season..


(Jan.19) - Emory University's Beth Bergmann scored 27 points and recorded six steals as well as nine assists over three games last week. In a game against University of Chicago, Bergmann dropped 14 points, her seventh double-digit scoring effort of the season. Bergmann, in a game at Washington University (MO), added seven points while also recording one steal, two assists, and two rebounds. In the game against LaGrange, She scored six points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out four assists. Bergmann on the season leads the team in assists (36) and steals (25).


(Jan. 12) - Freshman Beth Bergmann came of the bench to score 14 points in Emory University's conference opener against Case Western Reserve University. Bergmann recorded five field goals, two three-point shots, one rebound and one assist. This was her sixth 10-point game of the season in nine contests.


(Dec. 15) - Beth Bergmann of Emory University came off the bench to score 12 points in the Eagles' 53-49 wins over the University of the South. Bergmann had a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, and landed two 3-point shots. Bergmann also posted one rebound, three assists and two steals in the game. Emory improved to 5-2 in its last game of the calendar year.


(Dec. 8) - Emory University's Lynn Oberschmidt averaged 20 points in two games last week. In a win at Oglethorpe (Ga.) Oberschmidt had a team-high 22 points in only 25 minutes. Against Piedmont College (Ga.), Oberschmidt again led the team, this time with 18 points. On the season Oberschmidt is averaging 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.


(Dec. 1) - Emory University's Stephanie Seibert scored 41 points and grabbed 33 rebounds in three games last week. Seibert recorded her first "double double" of the season with 18 points and 16 rebounds to help Emory defeat Wesleyan College (Ga.) 70-62. Against Westminster College (PA), Seibert was one rebound shy of recording her second-consecutive "double double" on the season with 16 points and nine rebounds. In only 29 minutes of play in a win over Centre College (KY), Seibert scored seven points and snatched eight rebounds. On the season, Seibert is averaging a near double double with 12.3 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. The team is off to a 3-1 start on the season.


(Nov. 24) - Emory University's Lynn Oberschmidt led the team to a victory in its season opener with a double-double. Oberschmidt recorded 17 points, including a perfect seven of seven from the free throw line, 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards, and six steals against the University of the South (TN). Last season, Oberschmidt set a school season record for field goal percentage (58.2), while finishing second on the team in scoring with 10 points per game.
